A-Rod is one of those psychos who has lied so much he actually believes he's telling the truth.

That's exactly what I was thinking

RT @AP: BREAKING: Alex Rodriguez sues Major League Baseball, players' union to overturn season-long suspension.

  • 2 weeks later...
Posted
According to Jeff Passan and Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, MLB player representatives "overwhelmingly agreed" that Alex Rodriguez should be kicked out of the union during a 90-minute conference call last week.

The call occurred on the day Rodriguez sued both MLB and the players' union. While union leadership quickly advised the player reps that kicking A-Rod out of the union is not legally possible, this is the latest indication that he could have trouble returning to a major league clubhouse. "That's what everyone was thinking," said one player. "We wanted to get on this call and not let him back. [To say,] ‘This is our game and we don't want you in it.'"

So in a totally ill advised and futile attempt to salvage what amounts to one season, ARod has effectively ended his MLB career.

Aside from the @%MM (and that is certainly significant), I'm having a hard time seeing what he thought he was going to gain from this crusade. His name was already mud and his lawyers have to have known that there was zero chance go success for this course of action. ARod must be insane.

I don't get what you mean. MLB was trying to suspend him without pay for like a year and a half, costing him $30m. Their punishment was going to be above and beyond what the CBA called for. He was fighting for the right to be treated fairly under the rules and save several million.

Well, he got 49 games knocked off his suspension for one. And I'd bet he certainly thought he had a chance of winning considering the length of the supsension handed down was just pulled out of Selig's ass, the information on the case was bought from a criminal, and one of the arbiters was testifying against A-Rod.

If his career is over what exactly has he lost? He wasn't going to break any records after 2 full seasons away from the game. He loses 0 dollars. Selig ended his career with HIS crusade, so all he had left was to try and fight it in court.

He had no chance of success once the arbitrator ruled against him, it was effectively over.

By proceeding as he has since then, he has severely complicated things for himself. The Union isn't going to lift a finger to do anything to help him beyond what they absolutely have to. He's now persona non grata in virtually all MLB circles.

i think those reports have been leaked with a purpose and may not be true. Obviously he should have fought the suspension. Any player would have done the same. His lawsuit is his way of getting the Yankees to pay him o go away. They'll buyout his contract for Nickles on the dollar and Alex will retire.

Oh, he absolutely should have appealed. But once the arbitrator ruled, that was the end of that.

We'll see what the lawsuit gets him, but it had zero chance of success.

I read somewhere that A-Rod is required to sue the union if he's going to continue to fight.

And if the Yankees buy him out it will be for a dollar on the dollar. Why on Earth would A-Rod accept a buyout for anything less than the entirety of his contract?

To get paid to do nothing. When the arbitrator ruled, his career was effctively over. I don't think ARod wants to embarrass himself on the diamond.

Who said he'd embarrass himself? If anybody wants A-Rod off the diamond it's the Yankees, not A-Rod. Baseball is his life, he's not walking away no matter how badly the Yankees want him to

He's not going to be welcome in any clubhouse, and if he persists, he'll be beaned with regularity. And frankly, he's not that great anymore anyway. Not nearly good enough to be worth the headache.

Which is why the Yankees will pay him his full contract to go away. Foolishly I might add if he's going to be thrown at in every AB. OBP machine, and consistently getting the opposing team's players suspended

yeah, what motivation does arod have to accept some cheap-ass buyout. They'll pay him what they promised and deal with it.

I don't get the constant "punishment didn't follow the CBA" argument. His suspension isn't about positive tests, it's about obstruction of the investigation

Which Selig pulled out of his ass.

I wonder how this would have played out had ARod not had his name leaked from the anonymous 2003 test he took? The one the union assured him that would remain anonymous and not at all be used against him. Without that, this would be his first offense at all, correct? And by offense, I mean clearly he did it, but the only proof they have is from another criminal. Stupid situation.

But again, they aren't punishing him for positive tests. They're punishing him for lying to them and obstructing the investigation

A completely sketchy and unethical investigation.

I'm not denying that, nor am I defending Selig. Just laying out what the twisted logic is behind the whole thing
