Hello Cubbie fans

I'm making my way to Chicago and for the first time ever, Wrigely field, over labor day (sunday afternoon game v. phils). I was hoping to get your opinions on where to sit, but I already got tix in the infield terrace boxes, section 213 I believe (in front of the beams).

What things should I consider doing while in Wrigleyville and at the park? I am 33, and will be with a friend, my dad, and my father in law.

Bars to hit before/after the game? What food to eat? Any other "can't miss" experiences?

Cheers!

For what not to do: Call them "Cubbies"

Avoid Terrace Reserved, especially if its not in the first ~5-6 rows. Upper Deck Box is better, and in most cases even Upper Deck Reserved. I'd guess that Wrigley's upper deck is closer to the field than many parts of most ballparks' lower deck.

The bar I liked best and was going to suggest three blocks south of Wrigley of course just closed, so that blows. The other one I like is a few blocks NW of the stadium, on Southport, called Cullen's. That's typically my go-to spot after a game. Great bar, good food. And if I want a quick bite before the game I just go to Al's, a couple blocks south on Clark. Basically my advice is to get away from the stadium before and after the game; Wrigleyville is a cesspool and you'll be fighting huge crowds for space in pretty average sports/frat bars.

What bar was that? I always liked going to Sheffields, but haven't been in a real long time now.

Sheffield's is still open. Knowing Mojo, he's probably talking about Barleycorn

There's a bajillion awesome bars if people are willing to walk a few blocks or take 1 or 2 L stops. I'm just saying that most people find the Wrigleyville thing real old real fast.

I like the Southport bars because while they get their share of Cubs traffic, they are rarely packed to the point where you can't get a seat or hear others talk.

Man I'm getting old if those are my priorities at a bar.

Exactly. Close enough to the park, but it's not packed.

And he goes to Wrigley, walks through Wrigleyville as one would do observing beasts in a zoo, and then enjoys some local bars and restaurants. Everybody wins.

Mojo is crotchety but correct. I would like to add that Gingerman and Rocks are both great, also.

Oh, and that sucks about O'Hagen's. Lots of good memories there. Also brunch.

Get a slice of that pizza that is as big as a wagon wheel. Been there like four times but can't remember the name of it. I think it is nearly beneath the el track.

Ugh, hate Toons

Their wings are delicious though!

I have some friends who just moved from Southport and Newport and they always took me to places that had great atmosphere and good food. I'm going to miss hanging out down there when I visit.
