I wonder if it's accepted that certain soft 'revenues' a club receives are not counted in the total revenue #'s for sharing? Are the skyboxes counted in? The rooftops? TV contracts, especially it wouldn't seem fair to give back a portion of the Fox/ESPN/Etc.. when everyone receives the same payment? I think that Yankee # seems low to me but since that's probably the top team I don't know.

Levine said he expects many of these FA to sign before Christmas, as it's pressure from home. He thought the Tanaka saga would drag on into late January.

Bruce Levine just said on The Score that the Cubs are still really interested and could go $80-100M ultimately. He reminded us that we went $80M on Annibel Sanchez bid. He says the $$$ is there and dropped the figure of $400M in current revenue and above $500M in future revenue(tv deal and Wrigley improvements). WOW! They had Jason McLeod on and when Tanaka came up, McLeod was pretty enthusiastic.

$80-$100m doesn't sound like enough, honestly, though I could be wrong.

Depends on the years. 4 years probably, 5 years maybe, 6 years probably not.

According to a Sponichi report, the Rakuten Golden Eagles are trying to convince highly-coveted right-hander Masahiro Tanaka to stay in Japan for one more season.

Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker provided the translation. Rakuten can refuse to post Tanaka this winter and retain him against his own wishes, but that would make them look bad to other Nippon Professional Baseball players and on the international market. So they're trying to be diplomatic about it. Tanaka has a stated desire to make the jump to Major League Baseball in 2014, but perhaps he'll change his mind if the Golden Eagles cut him a good deal. If the 25-year-old still wants to leave after the negotiations are through, Rakuten will likely let him.

According to Sanspo.com, Rakuten Golden Eagles owner Hiroshi Mikitani will allow Masahiro Tanaka to be posted this offseason.

The news, though not official, was passed along by Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. There have been some doubts about whether Tanaka would be posted this winter, with one recent report suggesting that the Rakuten Golden Eagles were planning to convince him to stick around for another year, but they will apparently grant him his wish and let him come to MLB. The new posting system has a maximum bid of $20 million, so we'd be surprised if the number of teams involved in negotiations doesn't go over double-digits. The Yankees, Cubs, Angels, Dodgers and Diamondbacks are among the teams expected to be in the mix.

@Buster_ESPN: Lots of speculation among executives that the Cubs are poised to try to strike big on Tanaka. We'll see.

Step right up, any Major League Baseball teams willing to put up $20 million just to negotiate with pitching star Masahiro Tanaka of Japan. Not long after MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball finalized agreement on new posting rules, Tanaka was given consent from his ownership to leave for North America if he wishes. And it's believed that he does wish it.

You can often find a thesaurus in tandem with a dictionary. That way you'll know when you spell polite wrong...
