Castro never showed much isolated patience or power at any level.

Alcantara steals home!

how did this happen with runners on second and third? couldn't have been the usual runner from first stealing second and drawing a throw. maybe the pitcher just fell asleep?

His IsoD is bordering on Alexei Ramirez territory.

Straight steal. It looked like he went on his own. I doubt it, but it had that random look.

I mean, Castro is a good player, but if Baez can play at SS and he can bring us something nice, he's eminently replaceable.

We have hitters in the tube at nearly every position save catcher, which if Castillo plays like this every year, we dont need.

villanueva is 1-2 with a walk, and his out was a fly out to the fence. he's been on a roll lately: .289/.347/.556/.902 in august and .296/.340/.520/.860 since the southern league all star break. underrated prospect IMO.

Willson has Welington's missing L.

Someone make a convincing case that Javier Baez wouldn't be one of our four best options at infield right now, or at least in 2014 when he has passed the service time thresholds.

He might be, but it probably wouldn't be what's best for his long term development.

i am starting to think that ranking baez 4th on my cubs midseason list was too low.

gee - ya think?

I'm starting to think Baez 4th on a total MLB list might be a little too low.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not sure letting him just beat on pitching he's too good for will be much better. He needs to be challenged, and there might not be a league in the minors that does that at this point.

Hits his SL leading 35th double.

Because until he learns to be properly patient and selective for a prolonged period, there's a risk of him turning into Castro this season just with more power.

plus defense, plus makeup, leading the league in doubles and extra base hits at age 22. who is with me on the bandwagon?!?

If this was the farm system of 2 seasons ago would we be tracking Villanueva's every AB obsessively like we do Baez/Bryant right now?

21 errors is a lot for a 3b

I've been following him closely since he was acquired. I don't think he has a future at 3B with the big club (one of Olt/Baez/Bryant will end up there), but his bat could play well at 2B if Alcantara doesn't work out (or is traded). I know he's a plus defender at 3B, and he doesn't have a big body, so maybe it's feasible.
