I refuse to give him page views unless it's a charity blogathon. I get that he doesn't want to burn a possible bridge with the Cubs but his renovation project "coverage" couldn't have been penned better by Craig Kenney himself.

I refuse to give him page views unless it's a charity blogathon. I get that he doesn't want to burn a possible bridge with the Cubs but his renovation project "coverage" couldn't have been penned better by Craig Kenney himself.

 

That's actually one of the things he's done that I've liked more than most (renovation watch stuff).

 

What exactly do you have a problem with about it, out of curiosity?

 

If anything, at first he was too diplomatic to the rooftops (who sponsored some crap on his site). [expletive] them.

How sure are you he's even going to be any good? He got started in the Cuban league late and wasn't there long. He seems to be a physical specimen but that's no real indicator of baseball skill. I trust our scouts to know what he's worth and the front office not to overpay.

Cubans are the hotness. It's time to finally not miss out on someone who can help us now.

I wont get too broken up over it if we don't get Castillo. I've already got Alcantara and Soler penciled in at CF and RF, respectively. Signing Castillo would basically force Valbuena to the bench when Bryant is ready, so the marginal gain there isn't huge (and possibly nonexistent).

 

I think he'll go to a team that needs him more. If we do sign him, I'll take that as a definite sign that the Cubs are looking to trade some of their young guys this offseason.

 

Edit:

 

I suppose it's possible that signing Castillo would push Alcantara to a super utility role. I wouldn't mind seeing him settle into that role eventually, but I'd be real surprised if the Cubs relegate him to that role so quickly when he's been effective to this point.
