There was a time when I was super high on Arrieta. I think it was 2009, though.

So, Villanueva back to the rotation for now? And who comes up? One of the lefties at Iowa?

Could just plant Stropp or Arietta into the rotation. I wouldn't be surprised if Raley or Rusin are called up for a quick one and done for tonight while they figure it out.

My guess is Strop to the pen and Villanueva back to the rotation? Or maybe they have to stretch him out......Rusin is pitching on Garza's start days, so he's likely to get the call when he's dealt.

Rotoworld's take:

Keith Law of ESPN reports that the Orioles have acquired right-hander Scott Feldman and catcher Steve Clevenger from the Cubs in exchange for right-handers Jake Arrietta and Pedro Strop, and international draft slots.

It's a deal that makes sense for both sides. Feldman owns a 3.46 ERA and 67/25 K/BB ratio over 91 innings this season, but he was only under contract through 2013 and was a logical trade candidate. While he makes for a nice addition for Baltimore's rotation, the Cubs did well to buy-low on two arms who could turn into interesting pieces in the long term. They also get some more flexibility in the international market.

Their hand must have been forced in IFA because I was hoping for much better for Feldman.

That better be a lot of pool space. I wasn't expecting much but these two guys......ugh

Strop was actually pretty decent last year in 66 IP. 3.69 FIP and 4.00 xFIP. BB and K rates weren't great though.

I really think the xFIP/FIP formulas are borked for guys who have extreme BB or K rates in either direction.

That's basically how I feel as well. Isn't there a cap on how much they can obtain from another team's pool though?

Yes, 50% of our current pool.

Clevenger alone should have been enough to get all the IFA space we needed, so this is basically Feldman for two Volstads.
