My favorite Marmol memory is the video of him celebrity bartending while drunk at Kerry's charity bowling event.

YES.

It was Mouthpiece sports and it looks like they took it down. He seemed pretty fond of the reporter.

He's gonna go to the Cardinals and become "2007 Marmol" again. I mean, Jake [expletive] Westbrook is pitching like Cy Young for them, it just never ends...

Is this a legitimate concern of yours or Only The Cardinals mockery?

I remember there was a gif/video floating around of a Marmol slider that made a batter duck out of the batters box to avoid the pitch and it was called a strike. That was my favorite Marmol moment. Don't recall the team or batter it was against, though. Or the year... but I assume it was during his insane 2010.

I remember that, and it was, in fact, awesome.

A crappy one that comes to mind was the first time I remember him seeming human, aside from the 07 playoffs, in Harden's debut, when [expletive] Theriot threw that ball into the OF and we blew a 5 run 9th inning lead. We won that game and he continued to be awesome after that, so no big deal.

The DeRo slide and goofy man-hug with Theriot to win that one were terrific. God, 2008 was a great year.

I vividly remember that gag, though. I'm pretty sure no one knew what to do with that at the time. It was a "the Russian is cut" moment.

Start of the 2010 season against the Braves. Marmol is in for the save and Andrew Heyward, who was a rookie at the time and off to a good start, was coming to the plate. I remember telling my son, "This guy is about to get an education on major league sliders." Three sliders and three bad swings later, Heyward was shaking his head walking back to the dugout.

When he was on, at times you needed a yardstick to measure how far batters missed his slider.

Andrew Heyward, eh? Never heard of him.

Yeah, if I were to pinpoint a particular favorite moment, that would be it. Like others have said, though, I'm perfectly happy just reminiscing on having an incredible reliever for multiple years.

I'm really sad to see him go. It was the right decision, but I have nothing but appreciation for how good Marmol was in Chicago.

Does this mean Szczur gets a promotion, or did they cover that with the hooner?

The Hooner filled in for the injured K Jax. The I Cub OF now consists of Hooner, Sappy, and Darnell "Not Good Enough for Even an Awful Nickname" McDonald. My guess is that Ty "He's Still Here?" Wright will take over, but who knows.

I choose to only remember good Marmol. I loved having that smug feeling of confidence when he would come into games. Batters didn't have a chance.

It was comical how nasty that slider was. I agree about that smug feeling of confidence. It was the only time I felt like I could have that when talking to Cardinal fans.

His slider was so good guys couldn't even swing. There was an interesting quote from Hoyer about his misuse in the past contributing to his marked ineffectiveness. I agree. He doesn't have a lot of mileage on that arm as he came up as a catcher.

No, but his mechanics, a speed and torque on his elbow were bound to reduce his effectiveness over time. He was never going to be a guy with an average lifespan on his arm.

In 2008, when we were in San Diego to see the Cubs, Marmol gave Addie a ball before the game during BP. For that reason, she always liked him.

I also have a signed Marmol Diamond Jaxx jersey. I'm sad he ended up sucking.

For this reason I will always be a huge Jered Weaver fan, threw a ball to my daughter who some jerk adult snatched. He came over brought a ball to her and signed it.

I remember I think it was 06 his rookie year and he came in in the crosstown classic against the Sox and his stuff was just electric.

I think he might have started a couple games in 05 but this was his first year fully in the bullpen and I was just in awe.

I think he even got the save against the Sox even though he wasnt a closer yet. I told my dad this guy is going to be dominant.

Wish someone would post how historically great his stats were a few of those years. He was really amazing for a good stretch.

I was in attendance for Marmol's first career start. Cubs beat the Reds in Cincy. Ronny Cedeno hit the game winning HR.

BLAST FROM THE PAST!!

@justinjabs: RT @ChrisCotillo: Hearing from #Cubs source that they are talking to two teams about Carlos Marmol, trying to get a deal done.

Probably just trying to see if he can get one of them to up their offer from a bag of balls to a slightly larger bag of balls.
