Per his Twitter, Ryan McNeil had surgery on Friday. Not sure what the surgery was for, but he posted this pic:

Kane County Chronicle[/url]"]Center fielder Trey Martin's recent left shoulder surgery will sideline him for the season, Cougars manager Mark Johnson said.

Martin landed on the disabled list last month after recurring labrum trouble resurfaced. The shoulder popped out during a game, then popped again days later when Martin was swinging.

"It's a surgery that he needed," Johnson said. "It's been popping out pretty consistent right now. It's just something he needed to get taken care of."

Looks like some sort of bandage/cast over his right elbow. Not good.

Also, Trey Martin's injury sucks hard, fortunately they can fix it with a scope now instead of having to cut him open. Shouldn't be an issue for him going forward since it's not his throwing shoulder.

I wouldn't call it internet stalking when people are putting this stuff out there.

Yeah, I can't help but think it's TJS. Based on what Arizona Phil said, he looked pretty good in the few innings he threw at extended spring training.

Beaz walked in his first PA tonight. I really want these last two weeks or so to be a new real ability level. That would be awesome.

Um, what are you trying to do? You're supposed to say something like it will never last. Or I really want to believe these last two weeks are a new trend, but...I don't.

Come on, man.

Szczur continues to produce in AA starting off the game with a double and run scored. Villanueva continues his hot streak by following that up with a 2-out double. He is tied for the league lead with 13 and has now raised his average to .270.

Alcantara was used to bunt Szczur over to third in the top of of the first after his double.

Did we rehire Sandberg for AA?

Daytona puts up a 5 spot in the 10th. Soler now 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, Baez 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, a walk and a strikeout. Thats 4 multi-hit games and 3 walks in his last 5 contests.

For all the stuff about Baez's approach....I've always felt like he could walk more if he wanted and could put the ball in play more if he stopped trying to kill every pitch he swung at. That's not to say he's ever going to have a great walk rate or not strike out a decent amount, but I've always thought his numbers were exaggerated maybe in all directions because of his lack of maturity at the plate. He probably hits balls out that he has no business hitting. Misses some balls he should probably put in play. But from what I have read and seen, with his level of talent and general attitude, there could be something to that.

The question for me has always been can he grow up as a hitter when he needs to. I hate to make this comparison, but Miguel Cabrera had similar issues when he came to the majors.

I'm not scared of Javy's numbers in Daytona at 20. I still look at him as a top 25 prospect, even before this hot streak. But I can't see any parallels with Cabrera. Cabrera went .274/.333/.421 with 38 walks and 85K's at 19 in the FSL in 545 PA. Then, at 20 in AA, went .365/.429/.609 with 31 walks and 49 K's in 303 PA.

I was poking around last night, and I found two interesting things as it pertained to Baez. There were some very good hitters who posted poor numbers in A+ as 20 year olds. Most notably, Robinson Cano. .276/.313/.377. Miguel Cabrera was a little better as a 19 year old in A+ but no great shakes (.274/.333/.421). Matt Kemp walked 25 times versus 92 Ks, and CarGo had 30 walks and K'd 104 both as 20 year olds in A+. Carlos Beltran had a much better 2:1 ratio but only hit .229/.311/.363 while the same age and at the same level as Baez.

But what really stood out to me was the sheer number of talented hitters who's numbers took a big jump from A+ to AA and from their age 20 to their age 21 years. It seemed to be a fairly consistent trend.

Great research work, sir.

Interesting fact. While destroying MWL pitching last year, Baez had almost the exact walk and strikeout totals as he does right now. Last year, 9 walks versus 48 strikeouts. This year, 8 walks and 48 strikeouts.
