If I could change one thing in baseball it would be having balls and strikes called automatically.

It would be good for the Cubs to win this game. I wish Travis Wood really was as good as his ERA this year.

Using ERA as the pitcher's tell all stat that it one was, no, Travis Wood is not a sub 2.00 pitcher. Still, there's more than luck to it. Luck doesn't take 4 middling at best pitchers and transform them into studs. I expect that once the smoke clears, Travis Wood will be the type of pitcher that your average big league team would love as their 3 starter.

We have the technology.

I'm not going into the "No. X starter" stuff. Wood is an average-ish starting pitcher, and I love that about him. But he's been insanely lucky, including today when he's not pitched particularly well (something J.D. mentioned as well) but has gotten away with it.

I do love that he adds a little value with his bat.

Do we have the best hitting pitchers in baseball? Seems like almost every game the pitcher is driving in a run.

Going into today, Cubs pitchers had a .185 wOBA, fifth in the NL.

However, we have a +0.2 baserunning score for our pitchers, the only team with a positive baserunning total.

I just noticed all the empty seats when the camera panned for the Sweeney home run. What is going on? It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon and the Cubs are actually playing pretty good baseball. Why are people not going to these games?

Most Cubs fans still think this team is hopelessly awful and doomed to lose 100 games again.
