Also, is anyone willing to say that Kyle Hendricks has 4-5th starter potential? I've liked him a lot for some reason since we acquired him. I think it's the really low BB totals.

When it comes prospects acquired via trade, unless we're talking about some 26-28 year old junk junk throw in, there's likely a lot of scouting involved that leads to acquiring the guy as opposed to another of the trade partner's fringe guys. If nothing else, that alone is reason enough for me to think that he has at least back of the rotation potential.

Hendricks has 4th/5th starter potential. It sounds like the stuff has gotten a bit better this year, although I doubt he's going to take a sudden jump from average to plus stuff. If the plus command holds, he's got a shot.

I really want to wonder if this really is some sort of breakout for Geiger. Now, all that said, I guess I'm reacting partially to the MiLB article, and those articles (about Geiger/Soler's night) tend to be ... fluff, and Geiger is coming off an exemplary night. That said, when I saw him before, he had a bit of a loopy swing, which, in reading the article and thinking about it, might've been due to the leg kick. If he's ironed that out a bit ... well, his K's are down and BB's are up, and we've always known there's power. No, he's not a .331 hitter or whatever he's doing now, but if the swing's smoother and he's on top of it, he could hit for enough contact. Of course, the other big issue is, uh ... I can't think of the term I want ... how much ... playable power ... he has. As he's destined, if he makes it up, to be a 1st/LF/DH type, he's going to need to hit for power to justify getting a look. He does have the raw power, though.

It's still a bit early, but there's some positive signs and he is age appropriate (age 21 season in A+).

I've always been under the impression that 21 is age appropriate for Low A, Short Season - 20/19, Rookie - 19/18 and so on. And by age appropriate I mean that is the age of a majority of the players at that level. If you are a top prospect you're probably a year or two ahead of that pace.

I'm curious what other people think and why. Thanks.

According to BA, the median age for the FSL in 2012 was 23 years old. See: http://yourprospectsucks.tumblr.com/post/24623508386/the-basics-of-minor-league-baseball

Also, according to Minor League Central, there are only 13 batters under the age of 21 currently in the FSL. Dustin Geiger is the 26th youngest player in the entire league. http://minorleaguecentral.com/leaderboard?lid%5B%5D=123&y=2013&split=200&amod=%3C%3D&age=99&time=0&type=batter&table=0

Soler is 1-1 with another walk

Baez is 1-2 with a double (and no k's)

Posted

Every time someone says Baez might be pulling out of it, he promptly 0-for-8 with 5 Ks over the next two games. So I'm not going to say it. But he is 2-for-3 tonight with no Ks.

Soler 2-for-2 with a BB, meaning he is 9-for-12 with a BB in the last two days.

btw - in the 4th inning, PJ allowed three singles to open the inning. He then proceeded to get an infield popup, strikeout and a Buxton ground out to get out of the bases loaded, no outs jam without allowing a run.

Just looked at Chattanooga's lineup and saw how well Puig is doing in AA. I think we're going to regret that miss more than Cespedes in the long run.

According to BR, the average batter age in the FSL is 22.8. And according to them, Geiger is the 32nd, with regards to age, of hitters with an AB.
