A lot of people I know here in Greenville, NC were watching in hopes of seeing Seth Maness pitch in light of his recent call-up. He was warming up in the eighth. Lord knows I'm glad on multiple levels that he didn't pitch in the ninth and somehow get the win.

How long before the successes of Wood, Feldman, and Villanueva becomes recognized as something more than luck? Between them and Samardzjia and Maholm last year, someone is doing something very right with our starting pitchers. Maybe it rubs off on the pen.

 

For Wood, it'll be when he stops stranding 80% of his runners and doesn't have a 7.4% HR/FB ratio.

 

He's been acceptable, but he hasn't fundamentally changed what kind of pitcher he is or anything.
