Now that MLB has reached the 21st century, we finally have online video evidence that baseball existed before last night.

Unfortunately, pretty much all of the games involving the Cubs so far are the games that make you want to kill yourself. Hopefully they update it soon.

As mentioned during the broadcast, today is the 15th anniversary of Kerry Wood's 20K game.

Jim Deshaies on the call.

Thank you for this. It was fun having the Astros broadcast as a change of pace.

I do miss the ad free backstop, fwiw. Hey, remember when Lenny Harris cost us a pennant cause dusty was afraid of pitching to him?

Yep. Arne Harris' direction left much to be desired by the late 1990s.

As a totally random and side note to the Kerry love of that particular game:

I remember this game and loving Sandy Martinez as a 14 year old. He was new (plus), had early success (plus), had an awesome catching stance (double plus). The fact he caught this game made him infinitely cool (which I guess still stands).

Not a full Cubs game or anything but I just found this video....its a dude walking around Wrigleyville towards the end of the 2003 NLDS Game 5 filming the neighborhood and assorted fan reactions during the final inning and then the celebration afterwards. Really fun to watch, especially as it starts out a calm neighborhood with assorted cheering fans walking by as the radio call of the game is spliced in, and over time you see the police presence ramping up and eventually the celebration spills out of the bars and into the streets.

There's actually about an hour of video between Parts 1 and 2

The balk call on Wood in the 2nd was total BS.

This isn't a full game, but seemed like the most fitting place to put it. Someone posted the Kyle Farnsworth spear on reddit and I hadn't seen it in forever...lol

Thanks for the link, that was awesome :D

Thanks for sending me down that rabbit hole. Wound up watching Phil Niekro's rather disastrous last start from 1987.

Man, that tackle is so great. He just stops Wilson dead in his tracks and drives him into the ground.

I kinda want to cry that the old Dugout comics are no longer online since the Farnsworth storylines were so fantastic.

I posted this in another thread, but this video has the entire Wood/Clemens 2003 game

Cubs Opening Day 1980, Jack Brickhouse interviews Duke Snider, Sammy Sosa 3 HRS 8/15/98, Kerry Wood vs Roger Clemens 6/2003, Barry Bonds HR race 2001, Rickey Henderson sets Runs Scored record

I guess I'll repost the other game from that 03 Yankees series that was posted in that thread, too.

Yeah that was a great video, I spent hours watching it. There's lots of little clips and parts of games in addition to the full games on there.

I can only assume that is the result of over 20 years of recording and re-recording on a VHS tape in EP mode. Marvelous.

Awesome. Now I just really miss Sosa.

lol@2001 when he was worth 78.8 offensive runs above average and +9.9 fWAR

Also, back when fan-level statheads thought Sosa was overrated because of his low OBP in like 95-96, he was actually kinda underrated thanks to his defense.

It's the first of several games from my hoard of cassettes that I intend to upload.

For those like me who geek out over stuff like this, I've set up a Twitter feed to announce my uploads as well as promote other available games - @MLBonVHS.

I remember getting home from school basically right before Alou's homer. That was a great day.

Here's an obscure contest: Padres 7, Cubs 4 from July 14, 1989. Tape starts in the 4th (just in time to see the play of the game.) Terrific commercials and Cubs promos intact.
