Never agree with Kaplan about anything.

Good rule but when he didn't even run on a fly ball 3 inches from the chalk I almost went over to the dark side.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how the hell that would have played out if it had been ruled fair. I was listening on the radio and I don't think they mentioned anything about it bouncing out of play.

Umpire discretion. I think they'd probably put him at 2nd, but that's their call.

Edit - yeah, what Bob said.

I found it funny that right before that play, Sutcliffe was defending him saying something like, "if it starts raining in Chicago, they'll even blame that on Starlin." Then RIGHT after that, he didn't run.

He did start running. It looked like the ball was out of play and the wind pushed it. Starling was 1/3 of the way to first when it landed.

Man, the radio guys made it sound like he didn't even leave the box.

He would've been able to get to 2B fairly easily I think if it was fair. Soler and Bryant were running tho and basically both at home when it came down

He didn't initially leave the batters box because it looked like it was into the stands the stands.

And then he trashed Starlin for not running. It was literally perfect timing.

I'm kind of starting to agree with Kaplan about Castro and that makes me really sad :(

Good thing is that the Castro haters were still wrong for most of five years.

Bad news is, i agree. I'm ready to make Castro a bench player/utility IF once Javy gets a couple games at AAA.

Do you remember how bad Javy was last year? It's far from a guarantee that would even be a positive move.

It's also possible that he has improved a good bit and evolved his game.

Last year in AAA before being called up he was .260/.323/.510. This year he is .314/.386/.536. Granted, that's only in 37 games this year, but obviously he is doing something different and there is improvement there.

Castro has been so bad, I'd happily roll Baez out there & assume the MIF defense is no worse (perhaps/probably better). Javy at least has the potential to run into a HR. Makes me sad to feel this way, but I do.

Yeah, i think shifting Russel to short and javy at second would upgrade the defense. Javy CAN be worse than Castro, but if he is it probably wouldnt hurt our overall offense too much, and he COULD be much better. Castro is an upgrade to the bench, too.

I dont want to hate castro, at all, but we cant trade him right now, and he really sucks a lot.

Also, he didnt run out a foul ball against the cards in the eighth inning and it made me mad, so maybe this is just an irrational overreaction to that.

This matters very little compared to how bad he's been at the plate this year. You can handle the mental mistakes if he was hitting to his potential or even in the stratosphere to his potential.

The frustrating thing about Castro is that he's young with a proven track record (approaching 1k hits before the age of 25). You'd think he'd be vetted out and more consistent as a hitter at this age...not regressing like he is. Let's hope he's going through a massive funk and can turn it around soon.

i know nothing about baseball so take this with a grain of salt, but i'd prefer better defense and massive power with lots of K's than a double play machine that makes lots of errors and occasionally gets a clutch hit.
