The absolutely marginal increase in the odds of winning right now (and the relatively meaninglessness of that at the moment) does not even begin to balance out the long-term benefit of getting Castro to maximize his potential. If management thinks he needs reps to do that, then he should be in the lineup every day.

But that isn't what Sveum is saying in the quote...at least not how I interpret it. Saying he needs more ABs is completely different that stating he "can't find" a day off to give Starlin a breather.

One extra day, even if it was every few weeks, will have no impact on his long term development from a reps perspective. Until Cody Ransom comes crashing back down to Earth, we might as well try to give ourselves a significant upgrade every few weeks in winning baseball games.
