I can only presume the rules don't allow for that. Because otherwise yeah, his call had zero to do with the play. Nobody stopped playing and allowed the goal because this [expletive] decided to call a [expletive] penalty on Saad.

I think because the play was waved off before the goal it cant be overturned. In theory, Red Wings players could have stopped playing after seeing the ref wave his hands or something. The issue is that it shouldn't be waved off, but because it was it has to stand.

i'd imagine that they can't overrule the penalty call, but they can amend it to allow the goal.

Seriously, Saad was just given the most unjust penalty in the history of hockey.

 

If that's a penalty on Saad, then everything is a penalty. Just skating down the ice is a penalty.
