Kaplan is still pushing this Brad Ausmus thing and claims Acta is out of the running:

David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com writes that Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus "seems to be rising" in the Cubs' managerial search.

Ausmus hasn't interviewed for the job yet, but Kaplan says there are those in the organization that are "very high" on the former Gold Glove catcher. Padres bench coach Rick Renteria and former Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch are also among the favorites for the Cubs' job, as they've already been promised second interviews. Kaplan says that former Nationals manager Manny Acta is out of the running.

So he is currently a special assistant who has not interviewed for the gig? But people are leaking they are high on him? Sounds like a candidate for a bench coach.

Kaplan's irrational Ausmus love is troubling.

Nothing Kaplan does/says is troubling to me. Mostly because the man is completely inconsequential to me.

His opinions do seem to affect, or at least reflect, the consensus sentiment about the Cubs and their doings, so it's annoying more than troubling to me.

Mooney's been talking up Ausmus in recent days too, so it's not completely out of the blue. Plus I'm sure Ausmus is a fine candidate, so having someone beat that drum doesn't really bother me.

That's more of what I was getting at.

OK, go get Lovullo now.

He's busy being drunk.

He was too busy looking up the Cubs wOBA and the defensive pbp to drink last night.

Which then caused him to drink (at least after looking at wOBA)

There's still time to get him to an AFL game, though.

And now he's dead of alcohol poisoning...

i'm convinced Lovullo is the Thibs of baseball.

Great with x's and o's then run them into the ground by Sept?

I think he means anti-social weirdo who eats Burger King 3 times a day.

Have you had the original chicken sandwich? It's worth eating 3 times a day, if not 4. That's my baseball discussion offering for the next 3 months or so.

High on the list despite not meeting one of the major criteria Theo listed and it just took them over a month to get around to an interview?

Many times when I'm shopping and comparing I'll go to my favorite last. It's better to compare all others to your favorite. You never know if you don't sample.

What if there is only one of your car in the world and there are 3-4 other people in your area also interested in cars like your favorite?

Impulsivity is never a good thing. I'm sure Ausmas would like to shop around too.

Cause I have too much time on my hands...

Here is my ideal coaching staff for the Cubs:

Manager: Torey Lovullo

Bench Coach: Dave Miley (Former Reds Manager, current AAA manager for NYY)

Pitching Coach: Blaise Ilsley (Current Cardinals bullpen coach, helped develop many of the Cards current young arms)

Hitting Coach: Victor Rodriguez (Assistant Red Sox hitting coach, minor league hitting coordinator for 6 years with Sox prior to that)
