I don't blame anyone that is tired of waiting for the Cubs, and certainly don't begrudge them anything that they consider to be the "last straw". My team loyalties don't work that way, but I certainly understand that level of frustration.

i'd never full on hate the cubs, but i could definitely see a scenario where i barely follow them for a few years, then pop back right in (in 2019) when they start to be good again

oh wait that's happening now

You barely follow them yet you post on a Cubs message board?

Got it.

He could be following this stuff but not watching games. Like many of us have been recently.

Exactly.

that, and there's a good core group of posters to discuss movies, tv, etc. with in this community already that i've spent/wasted 10 years with.

if it's wedge that means the decision belonged to ricketts and we're [expletive].

You're gonna need to walk me through the logic on that one.

complete speculation, but i don't think theo and jed would choose wedge on their own. to me, a wedge hiring would say that ownership is meddling and wanted somebody with more experience to make it look like they're trying to win now.

Why would the Ricketts meddle to hire Wedge? He probably doesn't infuse any excitement amongst the meatball fans

Yeah, Wedge isn't good enough nor a name enough to cause the Ricketts to meddle.

i'm not saying ricketts would handpick wedge or anything. i could just theoretically see a scenario where theo/jed might want one of these unknowns while ownership might urge them to choose somebody with experience.

Theo said in a press conference that they were prioritizing previous managerial or MLB coaching experience, and Wedge would be a curious "forced" choice since they could get someone that checks those boxes with a much more analytical bent in Acta.

While I guess it makes decent fodder while we wait for the playoffs to finish, I just want them to be done with this. I liked Sveum, but if they felt he was hurting player development then I understand the decision to fire him(and also that I probably won't be able to backseat judge the new hire either). Of the 4 that seem to be remaining(Renteria, Hinch, Lovullo, Wedge), Wedge is the only one that doesn't make sense to me, but now that I look at the numbers there's nothing really egregious. If I have to guess, I'd say Lovullo probably has to be a favorite or near-favorite to be holding up the process like this, so I'll say it's either him or Renteria.

I'm a mod on a Cubs message board and my posts are by far in social/other sports right now.

This interview may explain why Theo and Jed are waiting for Lovullo:

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/torey-lovullo-future-big-league-manager/

On the sacrifice bunt: “The equation changes depending on things like where you’re playing, who you’re playing against and what you have available in your bullpen. Overall, I’m not a fan of it. I think it’s needed from time to time, but we led the league in runs scored this year and had the fewest sacrifice bunts.

On lineup construction: “The mentality of a baseball player is such that they love the routine. To pull somebody completely out of their routine — out of their comfort level — I’m not in favor of that. You don’t want to hit Dustin Pedroia leadoff one day, third the next day and second the day after that. I like the idea that the leadoff hitter is going to come to the ballpark knowing he’s hitting leadoff. Same for the second, third and fourth hitter."

After reading that article, I'm sold.

Great with x's and o's then run them into the ground by Sept?

I think he means anti-social weirdo who eats Burger King 3 times a day.

if he's anti-social and loves burger king, it sounds like he probably eats a lot of sandwiches by himself
