What changed with Mike Maddux this time around? Last year it seemed the Cubs wanted him and he turned down the job because he didn't want to leave or move his family.

I would think the fact he turned it down, or withdrew at the very least WOULD be held against him. Especially as a guy without managerial experience. Which the Cubs really want this time around.

And it seems like the Cubs are looking for a different type of candidate this time around. Namely, they want managerial experience.

What's the deal with Bosio, Bell and the rest of the staff - are they in limbo or are they gone too?

They are in limbo.

They are in limbo.

I like to imagine them playing limbo while in limbo.

I like to imagine them playing limbo while in limbo.

Hopefully while watching Lambada: The Fordidden Dance.

I've loved pretty much everything Acta's ever said in the press. His results have been...less than stellar, which concerns me a bit, but he really does seem to get it.

My thoughts as well.

His results do concern me. I'd be interested to hear more about the Cleveland stint especially. That was a pretty big collapse in 2012. But -- anyone can have a collapse of bibilical proportions in August, right?

More seriously though, he sounds very intelligent, and he communicates extremely well.

Friend of mine from California claims that SD radio is reporting the Cubs are looking at Rick Renteria.

The #Cubs will interview #Padres bench coach Rick Renteria for their managerial opening. Interview expected "soon".

Hmmm, reading between the lines -- expect to see an announcement that Girardi re-signed with the Yankees.

I wouldn't read that into it. Can't expect them to be in a holding pattern while they wait on Girardi.

Hinch apparently met with them already, too.

Also, FWIW, someone claimed to have seen Girardi at the Blackhawks game but that seems incredibly unlikely considering how easily TV could've picked up on it. I wouldn't even mention it if purple fanta guy hadn't happened.

Maybe, but wouldn't they have some motivation to go through the motions even if Girardi was looking certain, just to make it look like no tampering occurred.

Based on what Kap said today + my own info (which had Acta at top and ruled out Martinez), current list now looks like Acta, Hinch, Renteria

This is stretching into boring territory. I need to know whether to make fun of the Cubs for overpaying for Girardi or for being spurned by him.

Shocking.

Does anyone know why Martinez would have been ruled out?

Am I missing something or are you basing this off of the news that the Cubs are talking to other people?

You aren't missing anything. It's just a guess based on the reports today.

Seriously. So much #want.

Girardi is under contract thru the end of the month. Even if he is eventually hired, the Cubs need to appease MLB by interviewing others, especially since they aren't even allowed to talk to Girardi.
