Rizzo is Mark Grace with a better eye.

With less contact but more power and I think that's it.

I do not think Rizzo has a better eye than Grace. Grace had a very good eye. He played in an era when taking walks was not publicly acknowledged as a very good thing. What he didn't have was power, which can be the difference between taking your fair share of walks and and actually having pitchers pitch around you.

I just went to Grace's Fangraphs page, and didn't realize how very good he was. Not a superstar by any mean, but I would be pretty pleased to see Rizzo become like Grace in the sense of a upper 800 OPS hitter.

I'd be pretty upset to see Rizzo become like Grace the person

More hits in the 90's than any other player. That is a big deal.

Is it my imagination or didn't management tell Kerry Wood to stay away from Grace because they thought it would be a bad influence? If we see Rizzo with a pack of Malboro Reds in his sock then we know it's become a problem.

Rizzo doesn't have anything close to Grace's ability to make contact. Grace did not strike out much.

I'd just like to add he didn't strike out because he was always going for slump busters, badumbum

He hit on my 15-year-old sister when we asked for an autograph in a restaurant during ST about 20 years ago while my dad sat a few feet away. Fun times.

There's little question that Grace is/was a total scumbag POS. That said, he was a damned good (though not great) baseball player.

in his defense, he thought she was 16.

Why do I look at Rizzo's 22 homers, 37 doubles and .324 on-base percentage (impressive considering he's hitting .230) and still think that his first full season in the majors hasn't been quite as horrific as many think?

And, yes, I realize one of the answers is that I'm an idiot.

The big questions are whether his power will grow as he matures (it should), and whether the defensive adjustments made against him this year will cause him to have a permanently crappy BABIP (they may).

He will be well served to learn to take the ball the other way. I like what he's done with his stance so he's coachable. I just don't know about his contact ability.

He has the 7th lowest BABIP in baseball. There's no way it remains this low throughout his career.
