Not sure why this is in NBA playoff thread, but I'll respond to it anyway...

 

What's the point of a superstar like Durant having an agent anyway? He's going to get max dollars no matter who negotiates for him, right?

Snookie could represent Durant and he's still going to get the same contract. I'm not saying he doesn't need a manager or anything for endorsements, scheduling, whatever. But I thought agents primarily deal with contracts. When is his next contract even coming up? 3, 4 more years?

He's not doing it for contract reasons. Durant, despite being a clear 2nd best player to LeBron is not in his league in endorsements. This is a good move for Durant to become a household name.

Agents don't deal only with contracts. He needs one (and a business manager, and accountants, and God knows what else). These guys are terrible with money.

Ok got it thanks. Guess i should read the article and not just te headline before I go asking questions.

 

The source said Durant believes he doesn't need a contract agent now because he signed an $85 million extension with the Thunder in 2010 that will take him through the 2015-16 season. Instead, Durant -- already one of the most marketable players in the league -- has told those close to him that he wants to increase his brand.

Didn't think it was significant enough news to start an NBA off-season thread.... but feel free to do so yourself.

 

 

And yeah, it's plenty important for players to have agents. Contrary to popular belief, professional athletes aren't experts at finance, accounting, marketing, legal paperwork or negotiations.
