This is so meatball-ish but I love it anyway:

But the most fun for me was when Epstein had a couple of anecdotes to tell at the end of his presentation. His demeanor changed from restrained giddiness to one of pride. The first one was at the end of year meetings. The meetings ended with Rizzo saying that, "It's time to win". After the meetings were over, he noted that a group of players had congregated and were talking about winning next season, about how they were going to prepare physically, what adjustments they were going to make, and admonishing each other that this is getting serious and that "nobody better goof off this offseason".

The second anecdote is that the young players at instructs have a very different perception of what it means to be a Cub than the national media. They use the word not as a symbol of the "lovable loser" but as a symbol of excellence. Upon a player not running hard to first, one player shouted, "Hey, that's not Cub!"

And by the same token, when a player made a spectacular defensive play to end an intrasquad ballgame, the cheer was, "That was Cub right there!!"

Whatever - this is awesome! Psyched for next year, and sounds like the roster is too.

I believe the Baltimore football team has a similar attitude

Did anybody else get this? Genius.

Theo on Manny:

“Manny, I think surprised a lot of people out there with the work he did, the attitude and just how he’s turned his life around,” Epstein said. “I am happy for Manny [Ramirez] as a person that he’s found peace.

I'm confused by the way Theo talks as if Manny was living on skid row prior to coming back to coach.

Theo's also a terrible human being.

What evidence do you have of this besides that he is young, rich and white?

Tell us more how Theo is just cleverly pandering instead of simply being a condescending prick.

"Manny, trust me, I think you're cool, I just have to publicly say these insulting things about you because of reasons."

And again: lifelong Red Sox fan.
