Bob Patterson.

And yes, the Expos were the first team he faced.

Yes and yes.

I wanna say Bottenfield was already on the Cardinals getting an early version of the pixie dust treatment by then.

LOL, looking back at the "2013" thread from late 2012. Who was this visionary who nailed exactly what we were facing back in Aug. 2012:

It's been my point all along that my big disagreement with this administration has been the timeline. It looks like 2012 & 2013 are going to be historically bad and with the CBA it's going to be hard to make a 20-25 game turn around in 2014 to become competitive. As others have pointed out that Shark and Wood are good for the middle and back of the rotation, there's nothing on the horizon to be optimistic about for the rest of the pitching staff. We can keep our fingers crossed about Jackson and Vitters, but they're certainly questionable at best. The bright hopes all seem to be 3-4 years away, but they are still just promising prospects that could be great ML players or busts.

Re-reading that thread is going to make me find a heroin dealer isn't it

Shouldn't be too hard.

Heroin abuse in the US has been spreading beyond inner cities, resulting in a sharp rise in addiction and death. Chicago is a hub for cheap, pure and plentiful heroin, much of it supplied by Mexican drug cartels.

Chicago's "L" train green line leads directly to the open-air drug markets on the city's west side.

As we travel the route with one of the addicts, Jason, he phones his contact. He wants two bags of heroin, each costing just $10 (£6). The dealer meets us, and within seconds two tiny bags are handed over.

This part of Chicago has been ground down by neglect, drugs and crime, and residents talk openly about the narcotics on sale.

Maybe they finally fixed the playing time in the OF depth charts.

Hmm, they still have 400 PA between McDonald/Wells/Valaika/Jackson, so I guess not completely.

I bet it was somebody like davearm.

I'd also bet that post was met with derision and laughter.

Many visionaries are met with derision and laughter by the masses.

Javy Baez is going to be the first person to hit the Wrigley CF scoreboard in a game (IRRC there's a rumor/story that Roberto Clemente may have hit it in batting practice?)

@MDGonzales Samardjiza, jackson, hammel, wood - cubs rotation for first 4 games

They're saying Wood is 4th for matchup reasons (vs. Philly)

Also lets him start the home opener which is probably a bit of consolation prize for not being the opening day starter.

I want to feel about Lake like TT must've felt for a couple of months about LaHair.

Good Lord, I must have completely blocked that out. It's like you just unlocked a repressed traumatic memory.

tt making the google spreadsheet where you could make cubs projections that wrecked itself if you made bryan lahair good was the best thing ever

After a disastrous 2013 performance against lefties, Rizzo has reverted to some of his strengths that have made upbeat manager Rick Renteria even more positive.

"We talked about his approach to the left-center gap, which is a strength of his from a natural standpoint," Renteria said Sunday. "And he knows it and is aware of it and is very conscious of it and is trying to get back and allow those things he's naturally capable of doing to play themselves out.

"He's got to lay off pitches that pitchers want him to hit, which are in, off the (strike) zone, and he's just got to focus on out over the plate and handle pitches he can drive."

At least three major league scouts have noticed that Rizzo looks more comfortable and more selective against left-handers, as evidenced by the fact he's 5-for-11 with two doubles and two RBIs and only one strikeout against left-handers.

They also believe Rizzo will continue to improve by facing more left-handers this spring. Rizzo, who was given Sunday off, is scheduled to return to the Cubs' lineup Monday night against crafty left-hander Eric Stults of the Padres at Cubs Park.
