@sahadevsharma: Passan says Ricketts stance is he won't spend until the Cubs start winning. Which obviously puts way too much pressure on Bryant, Baez, etc

Well that's [expletive] nice.

Holy [expletive]! Seriously, Javy looks just like my neighbor's son who is Honduran. And he is 16. What is Javy's nationality again?

He's a freakin' baby and he's this good. How strong is this guy going to be when he's 25?

Every day that passes, Ricketts feels more & more like Bill [expletive] Wirtz.

That is the most assbackwards strategy I've ever [expletive] contemplated. I really, really hope that's not true

According to Len on the Score this morning, apparently Tim Buss, strength and conditioning coach, has spent the offseason living with Starlin (and of course that he's in the best shape of his life).

If the Cubs get Tanaka and keep Shark I really like their chances within the devision this year. I expect a big bounce back year from Starlin.

I don't know that I'd go that far, but it would be a much more competitive team than we've been seeing with lots of fun things going on in the background.

Jed is talking about this now on The Score, about how they felt like he could come into camp in better shape than he did last year, and that Starlin is completely on board with that.

Picking up Tanaka and keeping Shark could turn us into buyers at the deadline, and we have lots of [expletive] to play with. I can envision a playoff race scenario.

Maybe.

The division is really [expletive] good though and I can't go as far as to say I'd really like our chances this year without the qualifier that a lot of things need to go right (like Rizzo and Castro getting really [expletive] good or something - or Baez being a big impact rookie or something)

Adding Tanaka to this team probably has them as roughly a .500 club, IMO. From there there's a lot of permutations that can put them in contention, but they do require unlikely things happening. There's a bunch of different unlikely things that could do it(Castro or Rizzo going nuts and being MVP candidates, Baez or Bryant pulling a Longoria, Olt or Lake stepping in as 3 win players, Vizcaino joining the pen and turning it into the 2011 Braves pen, Arrieta or Samardzija making 2 win jumps, being in contention and someone like Stanton coming available in trade) which is nice, but I won't go as far to say I like their chances, for the division or even the playoffs.

I don't know how you get us to a .500 club without huge leaps from Castro and Rizzo. The OF is nightmare fuel

After double checking it looks like I'm rounding up a little bit(let's say "high 70s"), but I believe the OF is better than that too(specifically Sweeney and the platoon). I still want to see another OF added to minimize the downside though, Kalish is interesting to me as a 5th OF but not when these guys are the other 4.
