Soccer, although no single soccer league has the interest of the NHL.

For a second there, I thought you went full-SEC and were thinking NASCAR.

Sport is the operative word there.

I'm sure many deflections are part of the strategy and aren't random acts of god, but that doesn't strike me personally as all that pure/poetic/elegant. Others disagree I'm sure.

you're talking about a small part of the game. it's like saying baseball sucks because guys always score on broken bat ground balls up the middle.

Baseball would be a lot suckier if runs scored that often on weakly hit ground balls.

if you don't watch hockey, how do you know how often goals are scored on deflections?

A combination of watching a small amount of hockey, and reading from those who watch more than me. I could be wrong, but I can't find much to indicate otherwise. Searching on the topic turns up a Canadian editorial wanting to to change the rules because " the game has turned into an exercise in shot-blocking, where the majority of goals are scored on ricochets, deflections or other happenstance." and a forum thread where some hockey fans estimate it's somewhere around one-third of all goals, so hardly scientific. Are there any numbers indicating that it's not the case?

think of all the things you'd think about baseball if you weren't a fan and just went by what writers/fans say. also, a goal doesn't have to be scored for an awesome play to occur. you're still just picking on a minor part of the game.

what percentage of runs in baseball are scored off weakly hit balls, walks, hit batters, errors, etc.?

this is ridiculous guys. let's all calm down and agree that baseball is the best and hockey and college football are both terrible.

It's okay guys, let them like concussiondome or whatever they're calling Hockey nowadays. No one's perfect.

verdict: hockey is good. college football sucks.

about ugly girls from vanderbilt. i could name two active college football players: manziel and clowney (sp?)

admittedly, i used to be pretty into college basketball and college football, but as i have aged and grown wiser, i have come to see the error of my ways. the ncaa is a pathetic organization and the major revenue sports in college are a sham. i mean, you're watching unpaid athletes earn millions of dollars for their employers, under the auspices that they're also getting an education. when in reality like half of them can barely even read.

The 'half of them can barely even read' part is the fault of the schools who could give a [expletive] about educating their players, not the sport in general.

Wait, are you going to act that this was the stance you were taking all along?

The best I'll say about college sports is that it has potential to be fun without all the NCAA and schools [expletive] it all up.

Am I missing something here?

Like any sport there's moments of beauty, but a huge percentage of scoring happens on broken plays or other unintended consequences, way more than any other sport

yet, here we sit on a message board for a sport where the tone of a player's year can be made of unintended consequences. this is a laughably stupid argument. soccer is just a giant, slow variation of the same concept as hockey
