The fundamental issue would be that if they can make mistakes like this with $2 million, what does that say about their ability to spend $20 million?

Almost nothing at all. Maybe less.

This.

You've had smarter statements, Kyle.

Stewart is trying to get released to keep his cash and find another team. But seriously what organization has as glaring a hole at 3b as the cubs? Valbuena is filling in nicely but that could change, and I'm guessing his future will be at 2b if he does continue.

Bottom line if he can't break into the lineup here, he's probably got to go the LaHair route and go overseas. I can not see a MLB team even giving him a minor league deal after the way this has played out.

There lots of teams worse off at 3B than the Cubs are right now. Is that a serious question?

BTW, in that interview, Hoyer was asked if Baez might be ready for a promotion soon.

Basically he said they like to have guys dominate at the level they're at prior to a promotion, and that you can definitely say that Baez is on his way there at this point.

The way he answered made me wonder if he might not see AA relatively soon (at least, sooner than I expected).

On the one hand, one game shouldn't make that much of a difference. On the other hand, 4 #@%$#@ home runs in one game makes a huge difference. Four in a week makes a difference.

Just a week or so ago it was going to be Soler getting bumped up to AA first, now it appears that it may be Baez or at least they may get moved up at the same time.

Yeah. He did allude to the past month or so of his play, of course.

Ian Stewart's twitter feed has been taken over by a robot.

I am focused on getting back to the big leagues and am working everyday to make that happen.

I let my frustrations get the best of me and in no way want to be a distraction.

I want to apologize to the entire Cubs organization for my comments on twitter .

The FSL all-star break is this weekend. An ideal time to let get deserving players an extra day for travel when they're prompted.

Or a guy who was told to make a public apology and is lashing out by making it as forced and contrived as humanly possible.

Anybody else get the vibe Ian was drunk tweeting? It was my initial thought after I read "late night" in the story. But maybe that is because I've made similar mistakes in my past...

@GDubCub: Stewart being suspended without pay, per loyalty clause, says Theo. term TBA.

Sounds like the first step toward negotiating terms for a release where the team can potentially recover some small portion of his salary.

I personally wouldn't promote Baez just yet. I'd like to see the K% stabilized for a longer period of time. The power has been there from the beginning, obviously. I'd like to see evidence of his new approach over a longer period of time (at the same level). I would think it would be easy to fall into what he knows best (i.e. non-selective approach) and try to impress immediately with a promotion at this point. Of course, this is all from afar and the front office knows the situation and what is best better than I.

Assuming he doesn't dip into a big slump, I would promote him in early August, giving him a full year in the FSL.

Hell, the cub fan in me worries this 4 home run game brings back too much hacking and less selectivity. I try to kill that pessimistic part of me but the Cubs have really done a number on me :-)

Didn't see this anywhere else...

Great Castro analysis from RJ Anderson of BP today.

Interesting read. Thanks.

This can't happen fast enough for me. Sec Taylor is about a mile from my house and I won't run down there for a game if he is around. On the local Des Moines TV station (13) he made a snide comment before he went off on twitter.

Part of me wishes that they would demote him several levels but I'm not sure that is wise as you don't want him "infecting" the lower ranks.

Who was the director of scouting with the rockies when they drafted this guy 10th overall?

Possibly, but don't let the time fool you. He has been on twitter in the "middle of the night" his entire tenure as a Cub, in season and off season. Is it possible he drunk tweets every night? Absolutely. But the general behavior of tweeting in those late hours isn't out of "normal" for him.

nobody is going to post theo's awesome burn on stewart?

He had the right to elect free agency (when he was out-righted to the minors) and he chose not to," Epstein said. "Currently, we have the second best production out of third base in the league. We are getting really good defense at third base, too.

"If that were to change and Ian would excel at the Triple-A level, we would consider calling him back up here. In the meantime, we are very happy with our production at third and Ian is working on trying to figure out Triple-A pitching."
