Soler isn't in Daytona's lineup.

Not surprising. Just because his suspension is over doesn't mean the Cubs will promptly send him up.

Obviously I was wrong, but it does surprise me. He's been keeping active in Arizona. What does he gain from sitting out more?

Spitballing but possibly just travel delays, a teaching lesson, anger management of some sort in Arizona or possibly a little tune up before they send him to Kane County or Tennessee because they don't want him to deal with certain elements in the FSL?

Man he was hitting so well, I sure hope they don't demote him.

Given the choice, I think I'd want Andreoli getting AA at bats in the outfield instead of Rubi Silva.

Eh, Silva may wind up as a 25th man type as well. Shocked he's got 4 homers already.

Three. Silva's a year older and doesn't have Andreoli's success to date, especially given Andreoli's college background they'd want to challenge him a bit more.

he hit his 4th right before you brought him up. I think Andreoli is the better prospect as well. But because he IS younger and neither are likely to turn into anything other than end of the bench types, I'm OK with this scenario. That said, I fully expect Andreoli gets half a season, at the minimum, in AA.

My guess is that the reason Silva is ahead is for a simple reason - he simply has a higher ceiling than Andreoli. His offensive potential is simply better. He's got a bit more pop, a bit more bat speed. It's not like Andreoli has a better performance record than him (granted, Silva's 2012 line was buffered by 2 hot months, but he produced). Silva also got the bump up to AA last year.

It's definitely possible that Andreoli overachieves and surprises, but he is very similar to James Adduci (probably a tick better, but it isn't much). Guys with their offensive limitations simply won't get pushed as much as a guy with a higher ceiling, for better or worse. Andreoli has a higher floor than Silva, but Andreoli's ceiling is that of a depth OF, and realistically, looks more like a AAA type. Silva is a very boom/bust guy with his approach issues, but the ceiling is probably a fringe starter, depth player if he figures out a better approach. You can dream a little bit with Silva.

I'm not saying Silva will be better, just that the ceiling is better.

I saw Javy with 2 R on only 1 H and got excited and looked over hoping to see a BB and saw 2K instead.

holy crap, is the daytona box accurate? 21 hits in 6.2 for clearwater?

Searle gives up 15 hits in 4.2

27 hits in 8 innings, no home runs, with 8 strikeouts. was daytona only using 3 fielders or something?

Last year Silva was 92K/5HR, but still hit .296. This year he's 4K/3HR (at least according to milb.com).

Was Baez a low BABIP guy last year too? Wouldn't be surprising if that's a chronic issue.

One guy who isn't having any BABIP problems is Dr. Bruno. I think he's 19-for-39 on balls in play, with 5 walks. I think he was a really high BABIP guy at Boise as well. .435 BABIP there.

Thanks, interesting.

I could imagine he could go either extreme on BABIP. Bat speed and all that, when he guesses right and actually hits the ball, you'd think he could be above average. Conversely, as a big-leg-kick guy I could see him being routinely off balance. As a guy who K's all the time because he can't actually make any contact, I could imagine a lot of the swings when he does make contact being weak contact. As a guess hitter when he guesses wrong I could again imagine being way off balance with weak contact.

Hopefully he can work it all out. And perhaps being such an auto-out now might end up being better than doing like Jackson and waiting till he's 24 to even try to change things. So perhaps this is exactly the kind of haplessness that will prompt him to make changes that could help him.

Baez had a.373 BABIP in Peoria, then much lower in the Midwest League.

Pretty solid on this correction - I believe you mean he was lower in the FSL.

Last I checked on minorleaguecentral, he had a metric ton of infield pop-ups this year. I have no idea what sort of mechanical/whatever issues might cause that, or even if it's all that reliable given how minor league batted ball data is collected.

I think most of us expected him to have this sort of struggle at some point going up the ladder. I was kind of hoping it'd be AA and not A+, though.

Nailed me dead to rights. Regression to the mean was always coming on that streak. :hello:

i know we're missing a lot of guys, but it's getting kind of disheartening checking these boxes every night

Yeah, its not been great. Way early though, we'll be fine. By far my biggest disappointment has been Paniagua not even getting here. I'm honestly not worried about Javy. If he's still struggling at the end of the month, I'll start to though.

I'll give the MWL guys a bit of a pass as the weather here has been exceptionally poor.
