He was arguing, he gestured as soon as the ball got past him and kept yapping after the play was dead. Looks like he thought it was tipped but it wasn't even close.

He was arguing and he was asking for a new ball because he thought it was a dead ball and thought it hit Lucroy's bat that wasn't within 2 feet of where the ball was. He was showing the ball to the ump after he got it, presumably, to show him the scuff that didn't exist due to the ball not hitting the bat.
