Technically, he'd give us flexibility. Wouldn't have to carry a backup C. He could play there once a week and LF the rest of the time, which would be kind of cool.

Hopefully we hear money on this soon.

I bet you'd still carry a backup catcher. I really can't see a team letting their second catcher be a guy playing the field every day.

I don't think you'd have to. Just have that Baker/Whitesides waste of a roster type guy in AAA, in case there needed.

Would you have said the same thing after the Cards drafted Wacha?

Schwarber is not a Vogelbach body.

He's a Big 10 middle linebacker in a baseball uniform.

Everyone needs to shut up forever trying to project us getting long-term rotation solutions until they are *actually* in the system. We didn't get one at No. 2 2013, we didn't get one in the Garza trade, we didn't get one No. 4 in 2014.

Really excited. I think it's a slam dunk that he'll be a productive big leaguer (again, full disclosure, I'm an IU alum & lifelong IU fan).

So do I. He's gonna make a lights-out reliever.

Yay. We get to watch the big club suck balls so we can draft near the top, and then the FO decides to....under-slot. So much for "McLeod LOVES Alex Jackson."

the low rent nature of this draft is hilarious every year

picked number 5th

Glad I'm not the only one who caught that.

my wife: picked number fifth!

Petition to nickname Schwarber "Good Vogelbach"

Lol I thought this to myself earlier. I hope he's the "much much better Vogelbach". Time will tell I guess. If his bat works we have quite the wave of big bats.

Not sure if it played any role or not, but Indiana's baseball coach Tracy Smith is a former Cubs minor leaguer and the a cubs sent him to MLB scout school after his playing career.

MLBN just showed the Cubs last few 1st round picks. That Hayden Simpson pick was brutal. Could have had Yelich, Syndergaard, Ranaudo, Walker, Castellanos, Gyroko, Smyly, Simmons.

I'm no expert but I call under slotting (if it even what this will be) what some experts are calling the best bat in the draft a great thing.
