He likes Soler more than Baez, which is certainly understandable. Other than when told Baez typically ranks higher on prospect lists, he responded with " who makes the lists?" He's seen them and thats all he needs. He even docked Baez because he plays SS. A position we already have covered. Yes, he's an idiot.

At this point I'm not sure how anyone can like Soler more than Baez. Javy is younger and has done more in the minors at a higher level.

What has Baez done at a higher level? Put up a .600 OPS in 20 games? I'll grant you he performed better, while 9 months younger, at a premium position, at the same level.

So Baez had a small sample size at high A, so what was the sample size Soler had at low A? There's a reason every single service I've read has Javy above Jorge.

Soler played what 40 total games last year? Baez only played 60 at A and 20 more at high A. At the same level, Javy played a little better, no question. But Javy hasn't "done more at a higher level." He's done more at the same level and he sucked at a higher level.

He's younger and a SS, which are really the key distinctions.

He was also hitting for power in the fall league. Wasn't he leading that league in homers when he got hurt? That's also a pretty big deal.

I like Baez better, but he has more flame out potential, imo. I can understand why someone would feel better about Soler's potential to make to the bigs and be good. Javy feels a lot more like boom or bust.

Yeah, I do feel better about Soler's chances because of that higher potential for flameout with Baez (Soler has a lot of international experience and a much better game plan at the plate). But you have to give Baez the nod since he's younger, a shortstop and also has elite potential.

I agree. And while I feel much better about Soler's floor than Javy's, I feel Soler's ceiling is also good enough to be really excited about.

The best floor though is Almora, correct?

I mean, you hear a lot about Almora's floor. I don't know that I could say that at this point, his is better than legitimate prospects who are more advanced than him, but I'm new to following prospects so maybe I'm wrong.

Ugh. Garza now expected out through all of April.

If one of Shark, E-Jax, Feldman, Wood, or Villanueva goes down, who's next in line? Raley, Rusin, Bowden probably?

Baker.

I should have specified. Meant if one goes down before season begins. Baker supposedly is coming back mid-April at the earliest.

Okay. In that case, we can go with only 1 start from the #5 spot until April 20th(at which point Baker, Garza, even Vizcaino become options to varying extents), but my guess would be Bowden.

It sucks that Garza is missing the start of the year as we are a better team with him, but I'm exicted that all 3 of Wood/Feldman/Villanueva will all be in the rotation. At least they all have a chance to improve their trade value, if we were to not be in it at the deadline, we could hopefully flip at least one of them for a Maholm type package.

With this depth, it makes all kinds of sense to start Garza on the DL. No reason to rush one of your most valuable pieces.
