Welp. Can't say I saw this one coming.

I guess maybe a possible LOOGY candidate?

Until he gets pissy about not being a starter and retires again. I understand bringing people in for looks and needing minor league filler, but I don't see Willis sticking around for more then a month.

Yikes. Didn't he retire?

That said, even his last two years in the majors, which sucked, he was pretty decent against lefties. Held them to a .369 OPS in 2011 and a .581 OPS in 2010. He might end up not terrible if we use him strictly as a LOOGY. Worth a shot, I guess.

I honestly spent 30 seconds staring at your post trying to figure out who the [expletive] "Weve" is and what he or she does in the front office.

When's the last time he's been decent?

2006

I wouldn't. In fact, it would be the worst signing ever.

That, and your bold support for a player repeating a 7 WAR season.

Original post was also a joke, but yeah, weird signing.

Not really. More often than not, minor league "signings" of this type are simply spring training invites, and the player has the option of walking if they don't make the big league roster.

If nothing else it reminds me of a teary and broken Dirk Diggler crawling back to Burt Reynolds after his meteoric rise to fame and subsequent plummet to the depths of hell.

Worth taking a chance on for sure. I think he could be useful as a LOOGY at least, and there's always the lottery ticket chance he could get his mojo back.

Yes, but there is the much bigger chance that you just wasted your money on a lottery ticket.

We have the free money to spend, though. Even if we make all the moves people (realistically) want to see, I don't think we'll be that close to our payroll limit.

Wasted money? On a minor league contract? Alrighty.

It was really just a generic response to the lottery ticket analogy. I'm not concerned with the Cubs having wasted money on Dontrelle Willis.
