ITT: people are mad at the front office because they are trying to add a good player

and n&g would be willing to go 6/90 even if we were talking about some japanese pitcher he hasn't heard of yet (he'll google him afterwards to see how mad he should be)

I loled

We should throw that money at those Indian pitchers that were in the Pirates system a few years ago.

One of them is still pitching.

Just looking at his numbers they look alright, but he's super old for his league. Then again, he's only been playing baseball for 4 years, so... I'm not sure if I should be somewhat impressed or massively underwhelmed on that information.

Actually after I posted that, I wiki'd them. The other one is now a serious javelin thrower or something. The wiki page is full of gems....

After Baseball: Patel taught school children baseball in Delhi for two days

in 2011, he helped his village boys prepare for the second season of the Million Dollar Arm talent hunt for about two months. He didn’t charge any money.

He made 5.7 million dollars and drives his smart car around his town.

Yeah, all of those international players sure turned out to totes suck and the FO had zero interest in them. Close call!

At this point, I'm wondering if the holdup is the all mighty mystery team(s.) His agent supposedly duped us, so wouldn't put it past him doing it again to raise the price. Anibal is the best remaining starter out there, and with the demand for pitching, I find it odd that he'd be down to just two suitors. I know the offer may be above market value, but not unreasonable by any stretch. He's 7 years younger than Ryan Dempster who just got a similar annual salary for 2 years.

Do you not pay attention to anything? It's not the AAV, teams don't really want to go 5 years on a pitcher who's admitted to having shoulder soreness every time he pitches.

@Ken_Rosenthal Source: #Cubs increase five-year offer to Anibal Sanchez to $77.5M. #Tigers at $75M. Negotiations continue.

When the market is as thin as it is, and demand high, unless his arms hanging from a thread is expect more teams to be in, especially when he's only 29. Marcum's 31 and isn't much healthier. Jackson's the only other option. There's always trades, but James Shields seems to have shown us how expensive front end starters will cost when going that rout.

With this in mind, it's also very possible that a big reason that we're pursuing Sanchez this aggressively may be that they've accepted the fact that a Garza extension isn't going to happen, and once Sanchez or another front end-ish SP is signed, Garza's traded a few days later.

If true it sounds like the Cubs are going to get every chance to respond to a Tigers matching offer (and have).

So the Tigers must've added the 5th year, if that's actually true.

Man this front office is leaky.

Seems like it, but does it really matter in this instance? Sure in trades it could be detrimental, but in FA most if the time your final offer is all that matters and the agents going to show your offer to your competitors anyways. I doubt the 77.5m leak changes anything.

I love that Rosenthal and Heyman's tweets are 10 minutes apart.

That or this is more of that awesome agent trying to squeeze out every last dollar.

They weren't leaky when nobody heard a thing about this pursuit that has supposedly been going on for a while until he was near signing.

Part of me thinks he just did what he usually does and reported on something someone else already tweeted, except he took it a step further by guessing that Sanchez would take the Tigers offer since they're at 5 years.

Then he can look like he has actual sources.

Supposedly he signed 5/$80MM with Tigers.

Nightengale from Anibal's agent.

I don't normally wish injury on players, but I kind of hope his arm falls off now just to screw the Tigers for signing him.
