Was anyone just listening to Waddle and Silvy, with Keith Law on? He evidently gave his opinion on Marmol and Sorianos' trade value. Just curious if he gave a legit answer or if it was a typical "too large of contracts to be moved" type of answer.

what did i get wrong? the suggestion was that we trade marmol and zych for porcello, then flip porcello and villanueva/candelario for olt, right? that's a lot of pieces to move for one old prospect

you kind of counted porcello twice in your post. it's not marmol, zych, porcello, and candelario for olt. it's marmol, zych, and candelario. or porcello and candelario.

uh, read that again.

his original post, not the quoted one

I agree that you need rotation depth, but when you have as deep a rotation as the Tigers have, and a guy like Porcello who could likely step in as a 4 or even 3 starter in a lot of big league rotations, I say that you shop him for the best possible return, be it a reliever or otherwise. Even if they did lose a starter, the Tigers are deep enough overall that they could survive with some sort of Rodrigo Lopez type at the back of the rotation until something better comes along.

What I do not understand about the Tigers is why not just use Porcello in the bullpen.

That's a thought that often comes up whenever a team shops an extra starter with potential to be at least a quality mid rotation starter. My thinking is that they're simply more valuable as a trade chip than as a reliable reliever.

Mike Olt is a top 25 prospect as of this offseason. This isn't Travis Snider we're talking about. A guy who could be a star 3rd baseman would be well worth giving up 1 season of a very in consistant closer and two solid but far from sure thing prospects. What it comes down to is that Olt may also be far from a sure thing, but he has the potential to be an impact player and perhaps heart of the order bat for years to come as soon as 2014.

He may be top 25, but he has struck out as much as Brett Jackson in the minors and is only 3 weeks younger than him. I'm not very high on him. That's not to say that, if he is as good in the field as they say, he can't still have a career as a productive player (and - to be fair - he has a lot more power than Jackson, which is a big deal... the comparison was just about their inabilities to make contact), but I think he's being overrated as a prospect right now.

To me what it comes down to is that our system seems loaded with guys that have a good shot at being big league players, be it as regulars or backups. However, aside from the big 4 and maybe Vogelbach, we don't have many that projet to be impact players. Olt is a guy who could be an impact player in the very near future. He could also easily be Matt LaPorta or Travis Snider, but It's a gamble I'd be willing to take.

Marmol has some value at this point, which could go up in the next few months, but the bottom could also drop out. Who knows what Candelario could ultimately be, but he won't be it for a good 4-5 years. Zych seems like a pretty solid relief prospect, but again, our system is deep enough that it's worth the gamble.

The Yankees have agreed to sign free agent outfielder Brennan Boesch, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (all Twitter links). The Scott Boras client obtained a Major League deal worth $1.5MM plus incentives, Heyman reports. Boesch will earn $600K in incentives based on plate appearances.

So the Yanks' starting lineup to begin the year:

Ichiro

Jeter

Cano

Youkilis

Travis Hafner

Juan Rivera

Boesch

Fransisco Cervelli

Gardner

Woof. I could see Gardner having the highest WAR of that group.

Somehow I think Robinson Cano will be better than Brett Gardner

Oh, yeah, duh.

Also Pineda to the 60 day DL to allow for the signing. Is he gonna pitch anytime soon? Lot of Yankees fans irate over that trade.

That lineup is going to absolutely mash, come 2005.

Heh, bad news gets possibly worse for the Yankees...

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9062220/mark-teixeira-new-york-yankees-says-wrist-injury-do-tendon

TAMPA, Fla. -- The injury that will keep New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira out of the lineup until May at the earliest is not a wrist strain, as originally reported, but a partially torn tendon sheath that could potentially require season-ending surgery.

@JimBowdenESPNxm According to Tigers source the Padres have turned down Porcello for Street and Porcello for Gregorson but talks continue

Why are we not able to deal Marmol to them for Porcello, again?

They're coming off of having Valverde as their closer. For as good as the rest of their team is, they evidently want someone who's not going to give you a heart attack. More consistent. You pretty much know what Street will give you.

Because Marmol has been pretty bad while Street has been pretty good.

SCIENCE.

bruce rondon????

He's pitched much better recently, but it appears they DO want some sort of backup plan.

The Yankees are about to complete a deal for Vernon Wells.

I saw this, but haven't heard anything on what's going back to the Angels. I heard the Angels where taking on all but $5M of his contract.

Wouldn't the Cubs have done something very similar for Soriano? The only thing I can think is the Yanks don't want to pay anything, on top of not giving any talent...
