The Diamondbacks are supposedly going after Porcello now, which is just weird. How many averagish SP's do they need?

Towers is shifting his attention to stockpiling arms that he can flip for a young, impact bat to play RF.

You know ... the thought did cross my mind whether or not they are building up a stockpile to make a run at someone ... say ... Giancarlo Stanton. That would be an interesting turn of events for their offseason, and they have enough pieces to make it interesting. I doubt it, but the thought did cross my mind. You put together a Skaggs and another arm, plus a Davidson, Parra, and a few other pieces, and it's an interesting package.

I was joking, but maybe.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale calls the Mets and Mariners the "favorites" for free agent Michael Bourn.

The Rangers, Nightengale says, are not "involved at all." Bourn has struggled to attract a healthy market this winter because signing him means the loss of a draft pick. The Mets right now -- though they're trying to fight it -- would lose a first-round pick (11th overall). The Mariners would also lose their first-round selection at 12th overall.

That said... it's Bob Nightengale.

Per ABTY

Cubs/Indians are in deep on Soriano talks... Sori has already told team Cleveland would be acceptable...

If true, I think its Chisenhall and he fills out 1B/3B bench and starter vs LHP role. Anyone else of "note" they may be after?

Didn't even notice that. yea. Chisenhall would replace stewart if anything.

I mean, I do get sort of excited when anything is about to happen now because I really don't expect our FO to make a bad move. Edited by David

We lose one of our biggest bats, but between Hairston, DeJesus, Schierholtz, Jackson, and Sappelt, we should be able to scrounge up a serviceable big league outfield.

While this team certainly looks much better than last year, they're still far enough from truly contending that I'd be willing to let the 2013 team take a hit like that for the right return. Chisenhall would be that return. This would also give us the freedom to shop Vitters, or else have him play some OF at Iowa.

Depends on what kind of service your are expecting.

sure, but soriano was one of the cubs' more productive players last year, and unless i'm mistaken, the indians farm system isn't very good. i guess i'd prefer to wait and make sure we're getting something worthwhile, as there's not a pressing need to get rid of him.

anyone want to figure this one out?

Soriano for Chisenhall, sign Bourn to fill out the OF, sign Cubans with money saved from Soriano to offset loss of pick/draft pool.

So . . . Cleveland is OK with Soriano, but San Francisco isn't? I'd say he doesn't understand geography, but he's been to these places mulitple times, so . . .

The issue with San Francisco was the chilly nights that weren't good on the joints, right? Don't have that in Cleveland, if that truly is the reason.

Cleveland has summers, and play most of their games east of the Mississippi. But it is Cleveland.
