I've learned something very valuable thanks to this trade. Fans will become completely and utterly delusional to justify moves their team makes regardless of how ludicrous they are. The only way this makes sense is if you see Davis as at least an above average starter going forward. Myers for 5 years of an above average pitcher, and Montgomery/Odorizzi for a year of Shields is not a great move, but it's at least a little defensible when you want to make a push at the MLB level. The problem is that there isn't a lot of indication that Davis is that guy. I've been pretty big on not overvaluing prospects who haven't touched the MLB level, but that's a steep price to pay when Shields is only around for a year.
