Astro's fans now claiming Biggio's 97 season was better than Cabrera last season.

fwiw, Biggio had a WAR that year that was 2.4 points higher than Cabrera last year.

Did Schilling deserve twice the votes that McGriff got?

I have a hard time evaluating Schilling's place in baseball history

If BR's Similarity Scores are to be believed...

The two most similar players to Fred McGriff were Willie McCovey and Willie Stargell.

The two most similar players to Curt Schilling were Kevin Brown and Bob Welch.

Who is the most similar player to Schilling in the self righteous jag category?

To be fair to Schilling he did rack up a ton of K's, had an amazing K/BB rate during his peak years, and had it not been for some pretty historic seasons by Randy Johnson and Johan Santana, would've probably won 3 Cy Young awards

and factor in 133 innings of dominant post-season pitching as well

And similarity scores don't adjust for era...

Please tell me Maddux wil still be a first ballot hall of famer. They aren't gonna hold this era over everyone are they?

God I hope not. Honestly Maddux should receive one of the highest percentage of votes of any player who will enter the hall.

So the Veterans committee elected this guy:

First, why should he be in the HOF, and second, who in the world was lobbying for him?

I guess he can now join Dave Bancroft, Rick Ferrell, Chick Haffey, and Rabbit Maranville in the absolute bottom of the barrell HOFers.

OK, that's a little harsh. He wasn't nearly as useless as those guys.

Member of the 76 cubs, looking at that team and man Ross Barnes had a decent year.

Some of those old baseball stats are hilarious.

For the Cubbies that year, Al Spalding threw 528.2 innings. Only had 39 K's though.

Check out our new HOFer Deacon White in that season.... 2 IP with 3 K's. Must have had filthy stuff...
