Game 12 - Seattle Seahawks @ BEARS - 12 PM - Louis on IR :(

I even read a cutler for MVP article(which is absurd).

The premise though, if it's the article I'm thinking of, truly looks at it as most valuable player, and there is a good argument to be made that without Jay, the Bears would be near the bottom of the league because the offense would be so dreadful without him running it due to such poor line play and Campbell (or McCown or whomever) being generally terrible. Now, it's not voted on as if it's most valuable but rather best statistics by a QB unless someone else has an historic season, but the idea of Jay truly being the most valuable has merit.

if players use that as an excuse, it will likely only work for the first few. Then people will catch on.

Well that's what it talks about. There have been a few that actually did test for it and had their suspension dropped/reduced when the league investigated their appeal, but then some suspensions have stayed despite being appealed. Basically since the league doesn't make public what players test positive for there really is no way of knowing if they are telling the truth or not for what they tested positive for v. what they say.

What I mean is, the first few might avoid "the stigma of steroids" that way, but after that, the general public won't buy it.

There really isn't much of a stigma for NFL players using steroids; it's nothing like the stigma baseball players face.

Bears cornerback Charles Tillman has what is believed to be a chipped bone in his right foot, according to a league source. The injury, however, does not appear to be serious, and it's possible he can play through it.

Chris Spencer, who started at left guard against the Vikings, suffered a minor meniscus tear in his left knee, according to a league source. Early indications are Spencer could finish the season despite the damage. He insisted he could have returned against the Vikings after suffering the injury.

I guess we'll know more about Tillman later.

What a shame if he can't finish off one of his greatest seasons ever.

I chipped a bone in my ankle a few years ago. And with Nfl doctors, I dont see why Tillman couldn't play in a week. I was pretty much over it in a 7-10 days only wore an air cast for 2 days.

I will admit, it's hard from that angle to tell if it was helmet to helmet at all.

It's still illegal to "launch" yourself at a guy and leave your feet even without making helmet to helmet contact/target his head, isn't it? "Launching" can be a fine/suspension worthy play if it's deemed bad enough, right?

I'm not sure of the rule regarding it, but jumping up to hit a guy in the head is the unnecessary/dirty part, IMO.

Launching is illegal in certain situations, like with a defenseless receiver, although doubtful with an open field block. But much like the Steltz hit on the guy laying near the sideline, it's a play that is generally accepted as part of the game but completely unnecessary and should be banned.

More Bears awesomeness from reddit: Don't mess with Adam Podlesh.

Not that I am not impressed at that stat Podlesh gave us, but lets not start piling praise on the guy. He uses Net punt average which accounts for the length of his punt and the coverage team making the stop. Obviously the punter can affect this as well with his hang time though.

Either way, despite having the highest and 2nd highest Net average in team history, his teams still ranked 8th and 21st in the NFL. Then you look at Gross punt average which is ust total distance a punt goes before a return, the Bears are 30th in the league there at 42.3 yards per attempt. The 1st place punter's average is 50.6. And last year the gross average was 43.9 yards, good for 22nd in the NFL well behind SF's punter who had an average of 50.9.

So how much credit should we give the punter and how much the special teams unit that stops these returners?

Interesting debate. The comment for the Bears from SBnation's power rankings this morning...

7. Chicago Bears (LW: 8, 8-3): Makes a difference when you have Jay Cutler and not Jason Campbell, huh? The Bears should be favored in every remaining game down the stretch.

As much as I'd like to agree, I have a feeling the Bears won't be favored against the Pack, even at Soldier.

Probably depends on the relative health of the two teams going in, both should win their next 2 games so I don't think it will be a case of one team playing/looking drastically better. But both are dealing with injuries to some pretty significant guys. If I had to guess I'd say the opening line is somewhere between Bears -1.5 and Bears -3 as of right now.

I don't know that launching in and of itself is illegal (this isn't hockey), but the helmet to helmet part should be a no-no.
