Lol. You lead your team to the bcs game as a true sophomore and then cheat on a paper. Were the trail of academic fraud casualties not enough warning you dolt.

I blame Saban. I'm sure he told Golson during the game that the starting QB would never get kicked off his team.

@celebrityhottub: It's not just Notre Dame and BYU. Florida State also has an honor code: up up down down left right left right B A.

Ok, I know most of those sounded pretty ridiculous. But now very good sources are telling me that Tommy Rees is the starting QB for one of the teams that played in the BCS title game just 4 months ago.

Gunner Kiel confirms to Cincinnati Enquirer he's not making a U-turn.

With only 3 scholarship QBs this year, I really wonder if Kelly might just toss Zaire in and have Rees continue to play the reliever role. ND's not going to win 12 games anyway.

Nah. Rees will start. I think Z plays a lot and maybe can start late in the year, maybe AF, Navy, or Pitt (if they're terrible). Zaire's second start can't come in the last game at UM that's currently on the schedule. That's gonna be an insane environment and you need a calmer presence. Unfortunately, the calmer presence also is a turnover machine.

You are probably right. I'd definitely get Zaire as much time as possible, though, even maybe a series or two in said insane environment to get his feet wet and give the UM defense something extra to worry about.

"Oh yeah. Tell Da'Shawn Hand I'm coming," Peppers said. "They call me, 'Commish.' Commissioner Peppers. Malik McDowell. Da'Shawn Hand. You need those defensive linemen. "A great defensive line makes a great DB and a great defensive secondary. Those guys are definitely on my radar. I'm coming strong. Emphasis on strong."

Eddie Vanderdoes is officially a Bruin. Helps make up for the sting of losing Kyle Allen to Texas A&M. Vanderdoes' official statement:

"I would like to thank the University of Notre Dame for lifting the recruiting ban and allowing me to sign an Athletic Scholarship with UCLA.

"Over the past four months, circumstances have changed for me and my family. For very personal reasons, I feel a strong need to remain close to home and near those who are most important in my life.

"I am honored and humbled that the University of Notre Dame thought enough of me as a person and a football player to offer me a scholarship. They have been very gracious to recognize not only how difficult a decision this was, but also how important it was for me to be near family at this time. I take my commitments seriously, but as circumstances changed, the most important commitment is the one made to family."

Sounds like he'll have to sit out this year and only have three seasons to play since Notre Dame didn't release him from his NLI.

Glad they didn't release him. If the LOI becomes meaningless than the whole process becomes an even bigger circus.

Still trying to figure out how an hour flight or 6+ hour drive is "close to home" but best of luck kid.

It does seem silly that top recruits sign NLIs which the university can get out of when they want but the player cannot. These players could easily sign a non-binding agreement (like Brandon Knight did when he went to Kentucky) - when a kids that talented, I can't imagine a school wouldn't accept that.

I admit to being pretty clueless on a lot of this LOI politics stuff - under what circumstances can a university get out of an LOI?

They can't just get out whenever they want. But scholarships are only annual commitments (ND treats them as 4-year commitments, not sure about other schools). So Saban can sign 100 players in 4 years, which he does, and then cut guys every spring to get down to 85 by Aug 1.

I'd prefer if scholarships were 4 years at every school and hardship waivers required real actual hardship. A school is still free to waive if they want but if a kid just wants to go somewhere else, the standard should then be pretty high.

As it is, the NCAA grants so many hardship waivers that scholarships are basically 1-year commitments for school and player.

I can't wait for them to create an early signing period. LOI's are already pretty much meaningless as are many of the offers.
