So... the Cubs will have no problem avoiding 100 losses, right? Those games in Colorado will be so easy! I wouldn't be shocked if they don't win again until the final home series.

lol, I believe I said they can go 1-5 on the road trip and still have a good shot of sweeping the Astros, not sure how you got "The Rockies series will be easy" out of that.

Also, its the first game of the trip you buzzkill.

You're focusing on the wrong reason that that post is stupid.

Is it the "Aramis fan wrote" part?

Why do you want them to win these games?

100 losses is an arbitrary number that impacts their future in no way. Draft slot and IFA money is an actual thing that will be impacted (however slightly) by the results of this game.

I hope we [expletive] never stop losing. Soooo much draft money

I can understand wanting the Cubs to lose for draft positioning. I disagree, but I can see it.

What I can't understand is actually watching games and actively rooting for the Cubs to lose.

You're smart so I know you're just trolling in this instance.

You disagree? Care to explain why?

I deleted that other part because nobody said anything about doing that.

Just watched the Castro homer. Holy [expletive] he didn't even get all of it and hit it out to near dead center. Granted, it's Coors, but that's a good sign.

Castro, Rizzo, and Castillo doing awesome things while the Cubs lose. That is the best case in these final days. There is no debate to be had.

Because I don't want the Cubs to lose. I get the stupid draft budget, IFA cap and all the other stupid [expletive] MLB placed in the CBA to keep smart people from getting better, but the Cubs are going to have a stupidly high draft pick, and a lot of draft/IFA money because of how terrible they are. I seriously doubt the difference between 2 and 3 will matter.

I'll concede that I'm not really going to be able to explain it very well, but while having the #2 pick is fine if that's what happens, I just don't feel like it's important enough to openly root for. Speaking as the fan of a football team who very recently had the top pick (in a sport where it's far more important to pick higher than it is in baseball), rooting for a crappy team sucks all the enthusiasm out of rooting for anything, really.

Most of the draft picks will amount to [expletive], so whatever. Yes, I get the value of #2 over #5; it's still depressing as hell that this team is so bad and will be again next year and the end result is a collection of new players who will mostly fade away into the ether. I just want the small joy of watching them win a game right now.

100% honestly, I don't even understand what it's like to have any emotional investment whatsoever in the outcome of these games right now. I really don't.

They may as well be spring training games to me.

For me it's because I'm a fan of the Cubs. I honestly don't give a damn about the drafts and the prospects and the farm teams. I understand the importance and hope to God this works out, but the process is [expletive] unbearable and awful and the worst thing ever.

The process is unbearable but it is beyond ridiculous to say you are a fan of the Cubs and don't give a damn about the drafts, prospects and farm teams.

Yea I'm having trouble seeing how that makes any sense.

I don't care in that I find them really, really, really boring. I appreciate the process and the hoped for end result, but I'm not going to pretend that I find it anything but tedious.

I never cared about the minor leagues before, to be honest, but following them this year has been really fun and promises to be even more fun next year.

I probably ventured into the Minor League forum 3 times total prior to 2012. One of those times was to find out who the hell Starlin Castro was in early 2010.

I'm not sure how a fan who spends time discussing his favorite baseball team on the internet doesn't follow the minor leagues. I've been following them since the mid-90's when I first discovered the ability to figure out who was who and what they did online. My interest waned as the Cubs system fell apart in the 2000s but the most interesting things about this franchise for more than half of the last 14 years have been associated with the minor leagues.

What can I say? I also can't stand college sports for similar reasons; once they get to the pros, great. Before then I can't muster much beyond a passing interest. Before I came here and could follow the minor league forum I basically paid zero attention to the minors unless we're talking someone like Prior. I really just don't care because most of them amount to zilch. Edited by Sammy Sofa

Part of that perception has to do with the fact that our player development has been pretty awful, with a few random exceptions who seemed to succeed despite our terrible organization. Obviously it's still a crapshoot, though.

I understand why quite a few don't get into the minors, based on our previous success rates with prospects. But other teams have much, much better rates and the guys we've brought in are certainly among them. While it was basically lip service from MacPhail and others, it's changing now. From video equipment, to our FO watching at bats every game, better instruction, more instruction, written out goals for every player in the system, bringing teams closer to Chicago to get better looks. Probably lots more, that's just off the top of my head. In years where the major league product is awful, it's great to see so many changes for the better from the bottom up.

Most guys who participate in minor league baseball amount to zilch, but you have to separate the minor leaguers from the prospects. The Cubs did a piss poor job of developing talented minor leaguers for a very long time, especially positions players, which I can see souring somebody on the notion of following them. However, those prospects are still the lifeblood of every organization and you absolutely do need them. The number 1 reason the Cubs have never enjoyed any sustained success at the major league level is a lack of developing prospects. But that's not because those guys are crapshoots, it's because the management has had its head up its butt. And while the rest of the baseball world learned more and more about the value of prospects, the Cubs stayed stuck in the past.

Yeah, it's great, but it's not why I'm a fan. I'm a fan of the end product. I'm old and cranky and set in my ways, so wake me up when the team doesn't stink.
