@mlbbowman: Braves could gain more financial flexibility if they move Hanson. Would free up around $4 mil. Adds to the options in search for another OF

I know he had a rough 2012, and that this is baseless speculation, but [expletive], I'd love to get ahold of Tommy Hanson. Especially if salary relief were their primary motivation.

Hanson's fastball fell from 91.2 to 89.7 last year. Something clearly isn't right there.

I spent 15 whole minutes making that template and I'll be got danged if I'll let it become a home to 3rd grade graffiti

They are looking for a left fielder....

Jordan Walden is now being shopped around after the signing of Ryan Madson.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the Angels have let teams know that Jordan Walden is "very available."

They're putting Walden on the block following the signing of Ryan Madson. Walden began 2012 as the Angels' closer but didn't last long and spent a good chunk of the year on the DL. He has a career 3.06 ERA and 10.8 K/9 rate, though, and should draw plenty of interest since he's only a first-time arbitration-eligible player. If the Halos are able to trade Walden, they would likely up their efforts to land Kyuji Fujikawa.

Either Marlin or ABTY one has mentioned previously that Beane really likes Barney at SS.

With the sickening glut of young pithing the A's have, there are a lot of options there, especially with two of the best FO's in baseball on the job. Brett Anderson or Brad Peacock could be targets. Barney alone isn't going to land either, but he'd be a good start.

Soriano+Vitters or Villanueva could be a start.

Brad Peacock in a straight up deal for Darwin Barney would make me question the sanity of our FO. If thats the return, Darwin's going no where.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. I appreciate the DWar, but Barney is a lot more Rey Ordonez than Ozzie Smith or Omar Vizquel. Peacock had a rocky at best 2012, but he still has 2-3 starter upside. We can then trade for Escobar or sign Keppinger to replace Barney. Peacock likely slides right into the rotation and we shop Travis Wood for prospects, and teams looking to fill out their rotations without giving up too much would surely bite.

Not overvaluing or undervaluing anyone. Barney is a virtual lock to be a quality MLB player, if not as an everyday SS as a utility guy. Peacock, on the other hand is more of a long shot but has the upside to be the type of SP that we need going forward. While his results haven't been there, he's always had great K rates.

We're not going to get a young, sure thing big league starter like Anderson, Hellickson, or Hanson with Barney as the centerpiece. If we could trade Barney for something along the lines of Peacock or Alex Cobb, I'd be happy with it. Especially when we have a farm system full of high upside middle infielders.

There aren't 15 shortstops in MLB more valuable than Darwin Barney, especially considering age/contract. Brad Peacock will be 25 this year and has 12 MLB innings, got lit up at AAA last year, and has had big control problems in the upper minors. They are not comparable.
