It amazes me how someone as smart as meph didn't know the difference between loses and looses.

I'm not convinced that his intellectual prowess extended much beyond the statistical/baseball analytics realm. His statistical analyses were pretty sweet, though.

He made me a believer on Khalil Greene. That one didn't turn out so well. Or J.R. Towels.

khalil greene was legitimately good for a few years in san diego. a lot of people on here liked him, and for good reason.

Rosenthal says deal is for 6-7 years, with a club option attached. Should be done by early next week, if not sooner.

This makes me very happy. Though, I guess I could nitpick and wish it was a bit longer.

Yeah, I was definitely on board with the Greene idea. I thought that if he got out of Petco he'd be able to be really good and I was ticked when the Cardinals traded for him. Did not expect him to flame out as spectacularly as he did; didn't he have serious anxiety issues?

you'd have anxiety issues too if you had to sit around wondering what your pillow gifts were going to be your whole life

@CSNMooney: Starlin said he's willing to go 6 or 7 years on extension with #Cubs: "I want to be the face of the franchise - me and Rizzo."

Oh great he's Rohnny Cedeno II

Rob agrees.

I don't get it. Does that mean I like him too much, or not enough?

I liked Ronny Cedeno.

I also like Castro (though granted, I preferred Lake due to the power potential when they were at the same level and nobody knew much of anything about either).

You know what? I'm okay with that one. Three years ago I made a post comparing a 19 year old SS to another SS with low walks, some pop potential, okay speed, and plus defensive tools he couldn't harness.

Castro's hit tool is obviously much better, and has allowed him to keep his strikeout rate low despite the approach issues. There wasn't much of a sample of Castro at the higher level to point at and hope he'd outpace Cedeno on that, though.

Why on earth did you remember that though?

Cedeno has an 11% walk rate this season, with a .280/.366/.432 line in 136 PA.

I say we trade Castro for him.

Who knows, ssr must has a photographic memory with regards to things like that. Impressive.

But, we seem to have the SS development down: Cedeno, Castro, Baez

Hak-Ju Lee.

I've said earlier, I remember this stupid [expletive] instead of things of actual value.

John Perrato just said on Twitter that the Cubs did well to get Castro for 7/60. That said, I have no clue who actually reported that or if it's true.

I know it sounds crazy, but I wish it would have been a longer deal. If he progresses like we think he's going to progress, him hitting free agency at 29 is going to suck.

There's evidently a 16 mill option for that year too though. It looks like it could be 8/76. Plus, we could always pull a deal like Tulo or Braun did and extend him in the middle of the current deal.

Yeah, it appears the Cubs have him locked in through his age 30 season, provided they want to pick up the option. And at a very, very reasonable cost. I'm not going to complain having Castro locked up that long. If he's still the man in 2021, we will worry about it then.

This has to be viewed as a great deal for the Cubs, and you can't blame Castro for wanting to set himself up for life even if he would have made more if he stayed healthy and productive.

If it actually is 7/60 with an 8th year option at 16, it's awesome. I had it in my mind we'd be looking at 6/54 on him, broken down 3,6,9,12,12,12. Which I thought would have been excellent. Going year to year with him would have been a bad idea obviously, but my guess is his 1st year of arb, he'd have gotten 5 mill or so. So whatever the breakdown ends up being, we've done great here.

So much meatballery on the comments from the ESPN article. I know I shouldn't read them but I was morbidly curious to see how many "He's an idiot who sucks" type comments there were. There were a lot.

Out of curiosity, with the exception of that one time Bobby V called out Castro for not paying attention, what other instances were there of Castro losing his focus and goofing on the field? Didn't he recently forget how many outs there were? Are those the only two things?

I just think it's silly that in the tenure of his career in Chicago he has made a small handful of goofs in singular situations and because of that there are idiot people who think this is a bad contract
