Fun with small samples. Coming into today, with hitters who have 80 PA's or more, Jackson is:

14th in MLB in walk rate

last in K rate

34th in MLB in isolated power

Jackson is either walking or striking out in 57.9% of his plate appearances. Next most was Cody Ransom and Adam Dunn at 50.2%.

The funniest thing about this is that I honestly see Theo and Jed looking at each other and Jed saying "WTF man? and Theo responding with "no [expletive] clue"........

Walk, hit for extra bases, and play the hell out of center and he'll be fine.

Unfortunately, that middle thing is kind of fickle and hard to maintain. He's very unlikely to keep doing it at his current rate.

You guys can try to convince yourselves the slash line is exciting, but deep down we all know he's only capable of sustaining one of those stats.

Yes, his lines of awesomeness will be through the roof.

(Actually, I have no clue what kind of player he'll end up being. But the waffling is lurking...lurking...LURKING)

Yeah, the walk rate. His pitch recognition is amazing right now.

So if you could get an over/under on his BB rate at 13% for his next 600 PAs, at even money, you'd take the over?

Insinuating 600 PA for Brett qualifies as a waffle. Seriously though, Rizzo never K'd at an exorbitant rate until he got to the majors last year. But his K rate has dropped 40% from last season and is actually less than his AAA K rate as well. I understand completely K's will always be a large part of Brett's game, but I really don't think a drop of 25% off his current rate is that inconceivable to imagine. And Brett at a 30%ish K rate is a pretty solid MLB player. When Rizzo got called up, it seems like Brett's K's spiked. Too much pressure on himself? No clue, but I think that we can work with him and get them to a rate where it's acceptable, due to the rest of ehat he brings.

Certainly more likely than I'd be to take the over on a K rate of 40% over his next 600 PAs. He's not striking out because he's swinging at bad pitches or watching third strikes. His contact rate is just unbelievably low on strikes. So much so that pitchers are responding by laying in more meatballs, and he's punishing the ones he hits.

I'll take the over on 40% for his next 600 PAs, though as a previous post noted, he may not get that many.

He's striking out because he can't hit anything but meatballs. All the pitch recognition in the world won't save that in the long run.
