Don't let Wittenmeyer off easy, he tweeted that Jackson was spotted too. Though the Sun-Times probably pays him in McRibs and postage stamps.

In unversity, a month after Mcdonalds had run its annual Mcrib promotion, the main caff would suddenly have its own "rib o' pork on a bun" specail that would last a week or so. True story.

miCubs has learned that the Cubs have called up top prospects Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters. Both are in uniform in Los Angeles for the Cubs and Dodgers series finale today. There is nothing yet to report on corresponding moves.

Jackson, who came into 2012 as the Cubs #1 rated prospect by most outlets, has a .256/.338/.479/.817 line in 106 games with Triple-A Iowa this season. The Cubs 2009 first round pick out of Cal has hit 22 doubles, 12 triples and 15 homers while driving in 47 runs and stealing 27 bags. The left-handed hitting 24 year-old has also struck out a league-leading 158 times and has played above average defense in centerfield, by all accounts.

Jackson's I-Cubs teammate Vitters is having his best overall season with the Cubs since the organization made him the third overall pick in the 2007 draft. Vitters currently sports a .304/.356/.513/.869 clip with 17 homers and 68 RBI. His walk-rate has improved marginally this season but he still needs to improve on his defense, as the 22 year-old has committed 21 errors at third base.

I think we're at 39 right now. But I suspect this guys next post to be that he mistakingly saw Kershaw and Kemp and thought they were Brett and Vitters.

I half expect that, too... what's throwing me off is the (seemingly) legit Cubs news website and the lengthy report he put out breaking the news of the call ups. If he's trolling, he's trolling hard.

I'm not sure either is actually ready. I don't think it can hurt Brett, he's going to have to learn to sink or swim and having Sveum around should conceivably help him. While it's exciting to see Vitters, he's the one I wish would have stayed in AAA until their season was over. Mainly because he's struggled in the past with midseason promotions. Still, not sure how much it hurts him either. So, if true, [expletive] it, I'm excited.

This is unfortunate, right?

I don't think so? But the fact each of us are using question marks speaks volumes, I guess.

RT @CarrieMuskat: Brett Jackson & Josh Vitters headed to LA. It's not a mirage. We'll send pix when they get here. #Cubs

Like raw said, nobody of note has confirmed this yet.

Pretty much all of my awareness of the minors comes from here, but it seems like the general consensus is that Jackson has hit a speedbump in terms of his patience at the plate. I'm assuming that bringing him up now starts the clock sooner than if he were just called up in September...so why would they do this?

It's about evaluating both at the ML level and getting to work with them personally on an every day basis. There's not much to gain at this point from keeping them in Iowa, especially Jackson.
