I kind of feel like there's two different things going on with LaHair in this thread. As bukie said, I think you have to separate your view of LaHair's performance to this point from your expectations of him going forward.

Based purely on his production to this point, he's very deserving of making the All-Star team. But, at the same time, I think it's highly doubtful he'll continue to be an "all-star level player" going forward. That doesn't make it bad that he was selected to the team, though.

Clearly a man who can have Tony Campana, the major's leading base stealer, motor boat your ass is the clear all star.

for the record, I love Bryan LaHair and am glad he's an All Star.

Those are just a couple of the funnier photos I took this past weekend in Chicago. Rizzo is a big man. . . .Campana, not so much.

Saturday as our tour group took the field, Campana and Rizzo came out for early BP. Campana jumps on Rizzo's back and somehow ends up with a face full of Rizzo butt.

I was just lucky enough to have the camera ready.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty acknowleged Monday that Joey Votto (knee) could miss the All-Star Game.

"Yes," said Jocketty. "The All-Star Game is important. But our season is more important." Votto missed his second straight game Monday due to left knee inflammation, but the Reds are confident he'll avoid a trip to the disabled list. MLB has tried to make it tougher for players to skip the All-Star Game this year, requiring that a player must either have missed the final two games of the first half or have a team doctor certify that the player is dealing with a "chronic injury or condition." Losing Votto would be a tough blow for the National League, who may be forced to start Bryan LaHair at first base.

Guys, this is actually a thing that could happen.

Hope he starts and is the MVP.

If Votto can't make it, my guess would be Sandoval moves over to start at 1B and David Wright starts at 3B. Wouldn't necessarily even need to add a 1B to replace Votto.

Denied. There is no such thing as a "tough blow" in the all star game, unless we are talking about an injury that affects actual games.

By rule the manager has to start the player at that position that received the next highest player vote total - which is LaHair.

No word yet however on if the AL manager starts a lefty it would mean that Jeff Baker will automatically gets the start in LaHair's place.

The Good thing about an All Star Jersey is that you can still wear it when he hits 55 Home Runs for The Dodgers next year. By the All Star break.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find it to be a major snafu to wear a jersey of an active player who's no longer on the team.
