I was a Pacer fan in Indiana. Still, I'm not sure I knew a single person that didn't like Jordan in 1992.

Ditto out here in LA. Everyone was a Bulls/MJ fan, I didn't realize how fickle a teenager's fandom was until all my friends who were Bulls fan abandoned them in 1999 and crawled back to the Lakers.

Obviously, there were people that didn't like him. Maybe with me growing up in North Carolina, I just never saw or heard of them. But I think the vast majority of the country were pro-Mike, at the very least.

I grew up in a poor rural community and in my class I think at least 10 kids had Jordan jerseys. I was one of them. We worshipped him and thought "Space Jam" was amazing.

"I hope there's a jumpshot in there." - Michael to Stacey King who was walking into the locker room with a box

They don't need a ticket to watch you sitting on the bench. They can go to your house for that." - Michael to Charles Davis who was sorting through his tickets for his family and friends

I'll kill you in your sleep is just a turn of phrase. Don't worry about it dad.

I think people are really conflating general fame/respecting the talent/the adoration of children into "everyone loved Michael Jordan."

I think you're conflating the media scrutiny, twitter-centric, social media, ubiquitious cell phone camera era of today with Jordan's time.

i think it's easy to confuse those things. there's a bit of hyperbole in "everyone loved michael jordan", but really, most people were michael jordan fans.

I hated Jordan at that time and I knew plenty of people that didn't like him either. But in hindsight that might have been more of a reaction to the obnoxious Bulls fans that I went to school with. I dunno.

How exactly am I doing that? My point is that people knew about Jordan's negative qualities by the time of the Dream Team. Plenty of articles brought it up and you had a huge book in The Jordan Rules. By the time he retired the first time you had plenty of scuttlebutt/jokes about his gambling and the porn stars and such, no Twitter required.

The biggest thing people are skewing here is the difference in perspective of Jordan the person/player and Michael Jordan: Insanely Famous World Celebrity. There were tons of people who weren't Jordan or Bulls fans who would where Jordan jerseys and t-shirts and shoes because of Jordan the brand and the status that came along with rocking that gear.

Like I said, time has effectively rehabilitated almost all of the Dream Team members (some simply didn't need it like Robinson). Everyone talks about Jordan and Bird and Magic and Barkley like they're the essentially universally beloved figures they are today. Back in the days tons of people couldn't stand each one of them, and looked at them as being the villain. People did that, but yes, still would wear the gear and respect the game and marvel at their ability. Think about how Kobe and LeBron are effectively villains today, yet look at the ridiculous amount of merchandise they move and just the sheer omnipresence of their celebrity globally. People will likely have the same type of hindsight perspective about them 20 years from now just because of how famous and talented they are.

Bingo. I never quite got the obsession over MJs gambling. Who cares?

Looks like the Knicks won't match Lin's offer sheet from the Rockets.

With him and Asik, they may have really screwed themselves in the Howard chase.

Did the time frame expire for the Bulls not to match the Rockets offer sheet on Asik?

No. I don't think it's even being sent over until after the Lin deal is official.

Apparently offer sheets have to be physically delivered, and the Rockets have failed in their attempts to physically deliver the offer sheet to the Knicks. This puts in my mind all sorts of funny mental images. I'm imagining some dude chasing after the Knicks GM down the streets of Manhattan like a process server, and the Knicks GM hiding out somewhere until the server leaves.

LOL, Seriously?? The Rockets GM might need to dress up as a pizza delivery guy and go to the Knicks headquarters and when the Knicks GM comes to pay him have the offer sheet in the pizza box.
