This is a 100 loss team. I should go back and dig up the old posts from all the "my opinion is a fact" posters who ridiculed those who suggested this before the season started, but you know who you are.

Considering the fact that the Cubs are likely to trade many of their few valuable assets before the trade deadline,I could easily see this team breaking the all time Cubs loss record. At the sake of being captain obvious, this team, minus 2 or 3 players, stinks from top to bottom. I am extremely disappointed with Sveum, although you certainly cant lay all of the blame on him. However Jeff Baker has no business starting nearly as much as he has. All of his tough guy reputation has been totally missing. Ian Stewart hasnt been unlucky,he sucks. Nobody walks. The relief pitchers make me miss Grabow.

Since I started watching the Cubs in the 60's, this is by far the worst team I heve seen. Pathetic.

There, I feel better.Move this to rants, delete this if you like,I really dont care.

I don't know why you'd word it like that, I'll happily continue to say that the Cubs aren't a 100 loss team. If anyone is convinced to the contrary I can make a sig bet or something if you think people are just blowing smoke with no conviction.

More to the point, the Cubs have played about as poorly as they can play(very few guys playing above projection with plenty below, 4 games below pythagorean, horrible 1-run game numbers, etc), and they still have to play at less than a 70 win pace to beat the 100 loss stigma. If they completely gut the MLB roster by dealing Garza, Dempster, Soriano, and DeJesus, that's obviously a different story, but the team as currently constructed(or even without a player or two due to injury/trade) is better than 62 wins.

Serious question: Our bullpen has 16 losses already this season. Even though individual wins and losses is prett much meaningless, does the number attributed to the entire bullpen mean more? 16 seems like an inordinate, unsustainably high number to me.......

Well our starters were doing pretty decent the first month and a half and we continually lost ballgames because of the bullpen.

I honestly think if we had a bullpen we could rely on we'd be close to a .500 ball club the rest of the way out. Not a contender, but halfway decent, at least.

We knew we weren't going to be very good anyways, I don't get why anyone would be worked up about this team. Relax in a month you'll have more reasons to watch. In the meantime I'd suggest enjoying the minor league section.

Even less than a month. Think I read Rizzo could come up June 22 and not forgo a year of eligibility?

Even better. I really don't get the big deal. We knew we were bad and the guys decided they didn't want to do the quick fix route. Plus like many have said we've been unlucky this year.

I hate saying this, but I'd rather go 62-100, than 81-81. We'll have much more flexibility going forward this way monetarily and have draft and IFA advantages to go along with it. I just want Shark to come back strong and for Rizzo to be solid when he comes up. Whether we trade Garza and/or LaHair is up to them. Better get Soler though, no excuses on that one at all.

We need to somehow finish pure last with awesome performances from longterm assets ruined by horrible performances from shortterm gets.

Yep. The bullpen, every single one of them currently in the majors can blow game after game as far as I'm concerned. Really need to see Shark bouncr back, for some reason, I think his continued development is the key to what we ultimately do with Garza.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup. Anyone screaming about how they know this is a 100-loss team is a simmering, succulent meatball.

At this point we can only hope that the team finishes with the worst record in baseball and gets the #1 pick in next year's draft. Anything else at this point, would be a massive failure.

Right...a 99 or 95 loss team is MUCH better than a 100 loss team.

Agreed. I hate it too but it's true. This team is rebuilding and needs to restock.

Because that's clearly the point.

Yeah, it's impossible to do that unless you're the worst team in baseball.

I hope we trade every last player in the farm system in a 12-team deal that brings in Josh Hamilton, Carlos Gonzalez, Ryan Braun, Joey Votto, Robinson Cano, Justin Verlander, Stephen Strasburg, and Matt Cain. Then I hope Josh Hamilton relapses on the team plane, commandeers the cockpit in a PCP rage, eats the pilot, crashes the plane, and kills everyone on board. Then I hope the Cubs run a promotion the next day where the first 25 fans to enter the stadium get a major league contract. Then they get moved to Jacksonville, go on a 643-game losing streak, and fanboy Tom finally sells the team so he can focus on the dogfighting ring he's running out of Wrigley. Anything short of this, and fire Theo.

Either that, or we can just hope to get a grip and make it through a season that wasn't destined to be anything resembling memorable in the first place.
