Johnson's going to keep his bonus amount quiet.

He can, but BA and PG will let us know.

I hope they shut him down for the summer. He already has thrown nearly 100 innings in 2012 despite missing time with the forearm injury.

Well it'd be nice to know just to add everything up, but the keys to figure out will be Almora, round 5-10, and Underwood. Hopefully that leaves us with a decent amount extra and it seems like we've already signed some over slots after 10th round- good sign.

Arizona Phil mentioned Rashard Crawford was at Fitch today, so he's definitely signed.

Bremer signed. Some other updates include Bonnell and Pannone are undecided and Crum posted a pic on Twitter where he was showing his mom pics of his college facilities.

Patrick (Fort Wayne, In): Jim, did the Cubs draft Rhett Wiseman in the 25th round as a back up plan in case Almora is not signed? Or, do you think the Cubs will seriously consider signing Wiseman along with Almora? Can you give a sleeper pick in the Cub's draft?

Jim Callis: Not really, because if Almora doesn't sign, his $3.25 million disappears from their draft pool. That said, I don't see how Almora will turn down a bonus in the neighborhood of $3 million. I think Wiseman is a totally separate consideration, albeit one who fell because he's going to be a very tough sign. We don't know how much the Cubs will have to play with because they haven't officially signed any of their first 10 picks, but they might be able to scrape up $1 million and make a run at Wiseman if they want.

Blackburn has probably signed. His girlfriend is meeting him in AZ next week. Gotta hand it to Yagyu, over at PSD for tracking most of this stuff down again. Granted, that was someone else who found that nugget out, but also a good poster. If anyone here actually POSTS regularly over there, instead of looking, Tim was right. Recruiting wouldn't be a bad idea. :D

Is it common to draft so many prospects that have converted from position player to pitcher? It seems like 2 out of every 3 scouting reports that Raisin posted mentioned a conversion from hitter to pitcher. If its not, is it a specific strategy by Theo and co to draft players that are possibly undervalued because of their relative newness to pitching?

That's a very interesting point. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that this is kind of like throwing stuff up against the wall and seeing what sticks, in their way of trying to find whatever the new "market inefficiency' is.

Dayton Moore (Royals GM) said in a recent radio interview that they target guys who have recently started pitching for wear and tear reasons. He basically said HS and college coaches don't have a clue what they're doing.

I'm sure a lot don't have a clue what they're doing, but there's plenty that know what they're doing and don't care.

#Cubs sign 4th-rder Josh Conway for $280k (pick value=$343,200). #CoastalCarolina RHP had 94-96 FB, nasty SL before TJ surgery. #mlbdraft

Nice. The more upside arms we can get in, the better. Can't wait to see how he progresses after rehab. Now get Blackburn (sounds like he's signed, though not confirmed) & Underwood.

BA has us at 310200 under slot, with Conway, Bruno, Heesch, and Krist accounted for. We know Prieto saved us an extra 57000 as well. Assuming Bruno must haved signed for right at slot, leaving Krist and Heesch signing for around 10000 each. Which means we can probably expect another 100k savings out of Martin.

Per BA, Conway signed for $280,000 ($63,200) under slot, Bruno signed for $150,000 ($1,400 over slot), Heeach for $10,000 ($128,800 under slot) and Kristen signed for $10,000 ($119,600 under slot).
