I'm still pretty confused. I don't understand how you could possibly fit a first round comp pick into the regular budget. it seems like if they are giving you the comp pick they would give you the cap space to sign that pick as well. since you had it but couldn't use it the year before just like you essentially lost the pick you lost the cap space that went with that pick seems logical you'd get it when you got the comp pick. no?

Otherwise what's the point of comping the pick? I don't see how in hell you'd fit it into your regular allotment. you'd have to sign 2 1st rounders with the money for 1?

Total greed kicking in now. If we could add one more HS pitcher with upside, I'd be ecstatic. But, if not, we've hit a home run, in my mind already. When they said they were confident they could add arms and be excited, they weren't kidding.

??? They would have slot money for each pick next year (if they couldn't sign Appel)... Not sure what's so confusing about that.

I respect the cubs staying on message here

pitching pitching pitching pitching

this obviously comes from on high and the message is obviously understood.

I agree, not that that matters.

You get the budget for whatever picks you have regardless of how you attained them. If a team has the 4, 10, and 19th picks, they'll get the slot money for each of those picks (plus all others obviously)

If the Pirates don't sign Appel and have the worst record this year, they will have the #1 and #9 pick in the 2013, and the 2013 #1 and #9 slot will be part of their cap allotment. You get both, but the number from 2012 does not carry over or add on.

Ok got it so they do get the slot money for both. Somehow I got lost in the wording.

I get it now, thanks guys. The slot money will change some but they money to sign the picks is still alloted.

I also love what the Cubs are doing with the pitching selections, I guess with all these arms some of them have got to pan out well.

Apologies if my wording didn't make sense. I'm typing off a phone and not really re-reading.

The lefty from USC Beaufort is a senior so here's an opportunity to save some money.

Love the Underwood pick.

FYI, Underwood has received a few Taijuan Walker comps. Probably because they're both black but I'll take it.

I'm pretty sure that Klaw had him top 50 in his last top 100 list.

Looks much better than the bizarre numbers UIC has on his profile...

And WTF?

Led team in wins (6), starts (13), innings pitched (84.0), strikeouts (42) and ERA (5.68)

1 - How does he go from 42K in 84 IP to 118 in 122...

2 - How do you lead the team in ERA at 5.68? Are the fences 300 feet?

Ugh. So much for the quick and painless underslot sign.

He's a Boras guy. He was going to be a slow sign, no matter what. I wouldn't read into it too much. At least the deadline is now July so he'd still get a month and a half of play in '12.

that's just Boras coaching. We have leverage, we can always use the pick next year in what should be a stronger draft anyway.

I would guess the move from D-1 to NAIA helped him out.

Looks like Lang already has a deal in place. Per his twitter, "First Junior to ever get drafted straight out of high school. I'm leaving June 22nd. I'm gonna miss y'all."

They would have slot money for the picks they have. King appeared to be asking if they got 2012's #9 slot money in addition to 2013's #9 and 2013's whatever they end up with based on their record.

That's what I thought king was asking too.

yeah that's what I was asking

Ha. Still doesn't explain #2. Unless by "lead" they mean "had the highest."
