I think Kyle has tried to make the argument before that football has been ruined for him be replay/review.

I know I'm in the vast minority, but I have to agree with Kyle on this. I wouldn't say that football has been "ruined", but instant replay has definitely changed how I view the game. Instead of being excited after a spectacular touchdown catch, now my first thought is whether or not it will be overturned. I don't want the same thing to happen in baseball, where a diving catch can't be celebrated because we have to wait for an answer to come down from the replay booth.

I don't believe you aren't excited after a TD catch. Replay or not.

If the umps do their jobs right, replays won't be necessary.

Do you believe that we're less excited than we would be without the possibility of replay?

Yes, because I get more excited when a call is right.

I love how people invent a universe where you can't be excited about a touchdown because your first thought is it might be overturned. I'm sure you just sit there on your hands saying, "ho-hum, yeah the guy on my team ran into the end zone with the ball and then spiked it and all his teammates mobbed him and the stadium went nuts and the bar erupted but I'm not getting caught up in that nonsense until after the ref decides what actually happened."

I mean, you are either an idiot or a liar. Or maybe you don't like football because nobody sits there after scores and doesn't get excited because there's a shot it might get overturned. That's absurd. It does not happen in the real world.

Strawman. No one said "can't enjoy." The argument is "enjoy slightly less."

No it isn't. You've said "ruined" all along. It is a lie. The other guy said, "instead of being excited." It's all a bunch of nonsense.

When something could be 10 on a 1-10 awesome scale, and instead it's an 8.5, I think it's reasonable to say it was "ruined."

Yeah, not so much.

Diminished, maybe. Ruined has a much more severe connotation.

Are we using BB's scale?

No, I believe you're excited exactly the same amount. I believe you're hugely disappointed if the call gets overturned, but I don't believe your excitement is diminished.

What about the times where replay provides excitement that would not have otherwise occured? A fumble that makes your heart drop....but it's overturned on review. Something of that nature.

I don't buy the "less excitement" argument. It might change exactly when and where you get excited, but I don't think anyone that watches the NFL regularly can say that it's less exciting now than it was pre-replay. And if they are saying that, I'm calling BS.

So how do we feel about replay now after Santana gets a BS no hitter because of a missed call?

Would have killed the excitement to get the call right.

I don't think replay undoes the Santana no hitter, or at least I hope it wouldn't. I'm not a big fan of reversing dead ball calls and letting umpires or inflexible rules simulate action.

How could it possibly not? Are you saying fair or foul shouldn't be reviewable? I think that's one of the easiest things to fix, especially on that particular call. Now, things change a bit if there was a guy on 1st who may have scored, but that's an easy ground rule double call to break up the no hitter once you see that ball hit the chalk.

I think you can change fair calls to foul, but not the other way around(the exception being HR which have no on field action). Beltran's case might be pretty straight forward, but there's too many other things at play for me to feel comfortable with simulating action to get to a result. What do you do with runners on base? What if it's a pop up down the line that the LF or SS can immediately pick up and throw to a base? So the only way to handle it would be to give discretion to the umpire, the same umpire we're trying to take power away from because they just blew a call. It's like a runner being down in football. You can rule them down somewhere after the fact, but interpreting what would have happened when you've already called the play dead is too much hypothetical interpretation for me.

They could always do as they do in tennis when an "out" call gets reversed: replay the point.

So just take the strike away? That's not so bad, although in this case it doesn't really help the No-Hitter* narrative.
