Dallas Beeler doesn't walk anyone (actually setting a career high 2 per 9 this year), but wow on the K rate and not in a good way. He's got 21 in 49 IP, which can only be rounded up to 4 per 9 (3.9). He's also given up 68 hits in his 49 innings, and he's been one of the easiest starters to get hits on in the system (10.7 per 9 for his career in the minors).

I know sinkerballers tend to have inflated hit totals in the minors due to the lesser defense and infields, but I'm still a little disappointed. Lets change that...Doesn't he throw 92-93 with his sinker? Doesn't he have a good slider as well? What's going on? Am I confusing him with someone (Whitenack)?

Does Simpson throw today after Searle?

slider's average, to the best of my knowledge. flashes a bit better occasionally, but that's probably why you see such a low K rate. It's also possible that the quality of the sinker is down. Haven't heard, but his GB% is down this year in Tennessee compared to the short stint there last year (about the same number of innings, 59% last year, 52 now ... of course, could also be a SSS issue).

Didn't Simpson throw after Francescon the other day? Hard to see him getting in again today if he's on a piggyback-ish schedule. If they've moved him to straight pen, then perhaps.

Hm didn't know Simpson threw the other day. Did he manage to limit the walks or runs to go along with the K's (HA!)?

I hope Beeler picks it up because I like to think he's an interesting BOR arm.

Nope. 1 IP, 3 hits, 1 walk, 0 K's, 3 ER's.

Burke has been really good so far, other than the BB's being higher than you would like. 6 IP, 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 4 K's, 4 BB's.

Burke is 26, he has to get bumped up soon right?

Burke is 24, not 26. 24 at A ball is a little old, but not too much to be concerned about, especially if he gets bumped to A+ about mid-season. Right now he is more like a low round college pitcher then a person who has been in a system for 6 years.

The biggest concern is that he can walk at the end of the season.

Torreyes is 5 for his last 7 with a BB.

Marco Hernandez is back over .200 with a 2/3 + BB day.

Well yeah, you've gotta get him to A+ ball soon to give you enough of an idea on rostering him.

He can't walk if they roster him. If they don't like him enough to roster him, it probably means he isn't looking that promising. But I think he clearly does look promising, so I think it's a no-brainer that he gets rostered and will then have up to three more options years to polish his craft.

Or am I missing something, such that the normal three years of options control doesn't apply to a player with 6 years of minor-league experience beforehand?
