I can't decide which of the two I want. The idea that Appel is taking the next step to TOR potential this year and that he'd be a fast mover has me leaning that way, but I don't think I could be disappointed no matter what the Astros do.

I agree. But if the Astros go with one of the HS bats and Manea and Appel are there at 2, I want Appel.

Manaea goes up against Tom Windle(threw no-no last outing) Friday in a matchup against Minnesota. I'm sure we'll get plenty of coverage of this one. Windle would be a damn good get in the 2nd for us.

And with the way Jonathan Gray is going, its plausible he's a very legit option at 2 for us himself. He was sitting mid 90's in the 9th and has obviously been excellent all year. Not sure what his weakness is(haven't done any research).

He hit 97 in the 9th.

His biggest issue prior to this season was control. That's one place he's really improved this season.

Here it is: http://sbb.scout.com/2/1273745.html

I haven't listened to it yet, so no idea on the quality.

ETA: Sounds like the Wilken interview is on the second half of the podcast and he's got another portion of the interview that'll air next week.

There's still some high school players that can't be ruled out, too.

Bingo. Take Trey Ball for instance. He's been a forgotten man because he didn't play fall ball, didin't go to Jupiter and didn't attend any of the winter showcases. Once his season starts if he shows a spike in velocity or improved secondary pitches he can easily be a top 10 pick. AJ Puk is another northern high school pitcher who can make a jump forward though not as high as Ball.

Thoughts on the first portion?

I wasn't able to hear it completely on my morning commute. I'll recap when I listen tonight. He did open his podcast with a Japandroids song, which was cool.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what's going on when the cold weather high schools finally start their season. Ball is a bit of an enigma/wild card.

Law's top 50 comes out Thursday even though he's already hinted he has Appel 1 and Manaea 2. But I'd imagine he will have some decent write ups on guys.

So, how about that Clint Frazier?

@conorglassey: Sweet mother mercy. Frazier just hit a ball into the lights to put Loganville up 6-3. This place EXPLODED. @CJF19 #mlbdraft

@conorglassey: Another HR for Frazier. This is so fun.

Meadows walked his first time up.

Posted

A few more

Ben Ford:

Meadows takes a fastball to the lower balk. Takes it like a champ.

Erwin strikes Frazier out on a nasty changeup.

Frazier comes up with game tied 3-3. 2 out runners on 1st and 2nd.

And hits an absolute monster bomb over trees in LF! MASSIVE!!!!!

One of the hardest and furthest balls i have ever seen a high school kid hit

Nathan Rode:

HOLY MOTHER OF.....first pitch BOMB by Frazier. That was crushed.

Conor Glassey:

Keith Law:

So Clint Frazier, after a K and a flyout in two previous ABs, just hit a massive bomb in a heavily scouted matchup vs Austin Meadows.

Dan Kirby:

Hopefully, #Astros scouts got lost and couldn't find the game in Georgia today. #FrazierBelongsInACubsUni

Jim Callis:

Expect [Cubs] to take college arm (Appel, Manaea).

Ben Badler:

I can see @conorglassey typing in all caps. But that Clint Frazier HR must have been special for @NathanRode to go all caps on us.

It's really hard not to want Frazier to add to our awesome positional wealth.

I think part of that comes from the worry over how much risk there is with a pitching prospect. I prefer Appel but there are times I too would rather pick Frazier/Meadows or hope for Dominic Smith, Jonathan Denney, Kris Bryant or Philip Ervin to continue to play well and make their way into the top two.

True...but Appel is so close that I feel like that minimizes the risk over a HS position guy, no?

All I can think of with high school hitters is Colvin and Vitters (and I suppose they both did make the majors, so that's not terrible by any means).

And I know I just pissed off what's left of the Vitters brigade.
